I know it doesn't help your friend, but this is one of the reasons I let my tuner spec' my engine/turbo/cams etc. I just told him what I was expecting from a road car - a brief both Harvey & Ahmed overdelivered on in my case.

believe it or not thre of the biggest tuners for this very popular car came up with this engine betwen them but when asked for comp ratio not one could tell us...
their honest answer was they didnt know
I would nt be dealing with such people but its toolate for my friend now
