Default VFR400 NC24 any guru's?

...got one here as a debt payed!

BUT its not charging...i am positive it was a year ago before it got layed up as it was used at night with lights etc and never flatterned the battery.....i have checked it and on running it has 11 volts..i herad the regulator/rectifier fucks up on this due to heat but it aint been used since it was last working..anything else to check?...Is it the bit under the tank?..and i see on ebay a regulator and rectifier are these one and the same thing?

regulator is indeed common fault and can fuck up without prior warning, had one here, worked fine, parked bike, used again 3 day's later and didn't charge anymore.
Replaced regulator, job done!

reg and rec are same thing. when replacing, clean up mounting surface and use heat transfer compound
