Cosworth engine covers?
When the Cosworths came out what color was the engine Cover? I'm not sure what It's called. You see them in mainly red and blue. Did you get to choose a color? Or was they all one color to begin with?
Cheers, Benni.

Of all the people to answer my question I never thought it would be yourself. Now we need to wait and see if you was correct. I've got my doubts.

AFAIK, the green ones were on late Saphs equipped with lambda sensors.
Red ones on early Saphs and 3 doors.
And Blue as you said.
Sure some Cossie geek will put actual dates and chassis nos etc down, but that's the basic gist of it.

YBJ = red top sierra( the J at the end reminds me of rouge = french for red)
YBG = green top sierra (cat equipt) (the G for green)
YBT = BT = blue top - big turbo escort cossies
YBP = P for plastic on the silver top of the small turbo escort cossies

Testing the future
it's a cam cover - no rockers in the engine as the overhead cams operate the valves directly via inverted bucket hydraulic tappets
don't forget also the black one

Original (YBB) 3 door and 2wd Saff rocker covers were red, to show that they were hard.
RS500 (YBD) ones were red too.
Pre-90 4x4's were red too, though the engine code was YBG.
Post 90 lambda controlled 4x4's (YBG and YBJ) were green topped, apparently a piss take by Cosworth at making a racing engine 'green'. Also indicated that it could run on unleaded fuel.
Big (YBT) turbo Escort Cosworths were blue topped, and small turbo (YBP) ones were silver topped with a revised design rocker cover .
