Basically NSL on a single carriageway is 60mph and on a dual carriageway is 70mph.

There can be other restrictions depending on the road or vehicle.

As above: 2 lanes with a cental reservation is classed as dual carriageway 70 limit, 2 lanes with no central reservation classed as single carriageway so is 6 limit

Nope, motorways are still 70 for vans or goods vehicles less than 7.5 ton (unless trailering or articulated), its just the dual carriage ways that are restricted to 60 instead of 70, and single carriage ways 50 instead of 60. Car-derrived vans have 70 limits for both.

I only recently found out that the transit connect can only do 60 on dual carriage ways so im glad i didnt go for one of those! I suppose it depends how strict the copper is though.

If it has a central reservation, 70mph unless posted different. No reservation, 60 mph.

Car derived vans can do 70 tho, so an escort van could, but a connect would be breaking the law lol.

Rather need to stop the connect or even crash it at 70 than the escort tho.

For vans, anything with a commercial chassis (i.e. not based on a car) is subject to different speed limits.

So I was told by the occifer that stopped me last year.

I just wish the people that drive on the single dual carrage near where i live could see this! Some of them do 30mph! The amount of times i feel like taking the national speed limit sign down and putting a 60 up!

I had an arguement with a taxi driver once which resulted in me not paying him. Was on single carriage way and the driver was doing 80mph. I said you know the speed limit is 60 here and he said.....

'who told you that?'

Fucking unbelieveable, he then claimed that all taxi drivers drive fast.

So I suppose thats ok then?

I love the way taxi firms recruit straight off the boat, its questionable as to whether the drivers even have a licence

A Transit Connect can do 70 on the dual carriageway as it's a car derived van, the bigger Transit can do 70 if it has windows in the back. So it's only the larger vans with no windows in the back that are limited.

Transit connect, Renault Kangoo etc are NOT car derived vans and are treated as vans under the legislation.

If it's a Transit ( Torneo) or other similar sized van BUILT AS A MINIBUS car speed limits apply, sticking windows in the back of a Transit won't make it legal to do 70 on a dual carriageway.

The lower speed rules apply to any goods vehicle over 2 tonnes max laden weight and no that doesn't mean if a full size Transit is empty it can do 70 it's the rated max weight not actual.

it is still a dual carriage way if there is 1 lane in each direction but with a proper central reservation ie grass verge or kerb/barrier. ie not just a white line
