agree

got the Mrs the tomtom 510 for valentines, we have used it a few times since, driving to places we had never been and replying purely on the tomtom, took us right to the front door, perfect so far!

i have a garmin i3. Pretty basic, no touch screen or anything, but is small enough to fit in a coat pocket etc.

I use it maybe once a month, and it is bloody brilliant!! If i was using it more, i would get one with more features etc, but for me it is very good. I've also uploaded the speed camera database on to it.

Think it has been superceded now by a newer model, but you can get the i3 dirt cheap on ebay

everyone says tom tom but having owned a tomtom go classic with the latest mapping and software i can honestly say its not really very good,
tomtom have bad customer service, old maps ,alot of the problems are teleatlas fault but id go for a garmin when mine stops working.
its sent me on stupid journeys that are sometimes dangerous like telling me to turn right on a dual carriage way so i slowed down in the outside lane and theres no junction!!
it closed 2 years ago i was told!

Tom Tom One GB is perfect for most peoples needs. The Go (more expensive) ones come with stuff like bluetooth handsfree, european maps, internal hard disk etc.

I've got a TomTom One GB and it's excellent, have used a garmin in the past, as well as a goodmans GNav and these two arent a patch on it.

Don't bother paying a fortune for speed cameras either, you can get the databases from www.pocketgpsworld.com for Ł2/month (not subscription based, just download the monthly updates whenever you want, and pay the Ł2 each time) and upoad them onto the sd card yourself, takes 5 mins

I use mine every day for work and it hasnt got me lost yet, and i go all over the country. Only bit it throws a wobbler about is the part of the A1 behind my house (between A63 and A64 exits, down to ferrybridge) as they moved the road so it thinks you are in a field

Ł164 online at halfrauds, whereas the Go 510 is Ł259, and if all you want is mapping and speed cameras, its a waste of money

Do you use your 510 ipod control? if so how?! I guess I need a cable. Doesn it then play through the car speakers via the cigarette plug I guess?
