Tuning People (Stu, Karl) LOOMs
From what i read on here, in books and people.
Apart from people wacking up boost and playing, are shonky engine looms the single biggest faliure of engines.
Everything i seem to read tends to always in a roundabout way come back to
Shonky looms
If this is right why do people spend £4k on an engine build and then run it on a 20 year old loom.
Then the bigger shock was that a engine loom is preety cheap at £350 for a full loom done by Ryan / Dingy
Can i have your views, am i talking out my arse

Get one Jase
Fitted one to mine before MSD live mapped it as the last thing i wanted was to drive it 330 miles only for them to say the loom is shonky
Everyone loves bufty stuff not stuff that is good for the car
EDITED TO ADD: Mine is from Ryan, top quality and came ready for coilpacks, WRC cam trigger and SECS monitor (extra cost mind).

I have a Dingy loom to go on my car before it's MSD live map at the end of the month.
Having spent the money I have on the engine, no way is a bit of burnt out wiring going to let the damn thing down.
I know of a Ryan loom for sale (Escos 4*4) for sensible money if you need it.
Si

I have been suggesting this to people i know about looms for ages, i was reading back on the RSOC in 2002 about engine problems and looms were mentioned but other things blamed, i used to get shot down on there, they would say no not loom, bad engine builder, bad mapping e.t.c
I dont need a loom
Just thought i would see what people think

most loom probs are due to either broken plugs that clip onto sensors or damaged contactors in the plugs and these can be replaced if you are handy with a soldering iron or buy the crimp tool. much cheaper than a new loom

tbh,i'd say it's NOT the main reason for meltdowns
when a car is mapped,a dodgy loom would be identified and hopefully either replaced or fixed.
It depends on the condition really, my own loom is standard but in excellent condition and i see no reason to change. My old car however the loom was fooked and i bought one off Ryan and it was sound.
I'd say component or mechanical failure is more likely myself

£350 is more than fair, have you tried sitting down and making your own
I do atleast 2 looms a week to suit lpg cars and there is no way there anything like as good looking as Ryans (cant comment on Dingys as not seen one but be the same sort of thing)
Costs of materials isn't as cheap as you may think and you definately wont knock one up in a few hrs.
