Does anyone know if i can find out if a cherished number plate has ever been issued or even better if i can find out who finds owns it so i can get in touch with the owner to see if he wants to sell it.

DVLA didnt put "Z"'s in plates way back then...

 

You used to able to check on newreg.com 'has it been issued' can find it on their site now

thanks every one for trying to help. there is a few other gaz and 1 and 2 number plates for sale on newreg and regtransfers (even gaz 87 ) but carnt find gaz 88

 

must have been available then.
i think you can find out from DVLA if you pay.worth a try.
i gather its your year of birth

if you cant get it you could get GA 28 BME to read GAZ 88 ME
but you would have to wait till 2028
