Default FAO anyone that knows the cossie water system well UPDATE

my other post explain a prob i have.
i have no water going to my matrix bit it does flow pk as i put a hose in 1 end and it come out fine.
i took the metal pipe that goes accross the turbo manifold to matrix off and started car and its not flowing water at all. neither is water going from head to oil cooler pipe,
can someone tell or show me the way the water system flows ie were does it go from the header tank ect as im confused why water aint flowing to my matrix. ive took the thermostat out aswell to make it flow straight away but no avail

I'd say it was your water pump, or an almightly airlock somewhere. What happens when you open the bleed screw with the engine running?

There should ALWAYS be flow through the engine and heater matrix, regardless of what your thermostat is doing

Neil.

brillaint so the coolent runs through the metal pipe on near manfold from the front and goes towards back of engine into matrix.

my thermostat is not in so why fa fook is there no water going up there?
there is water to the thermostat housing then it goes to the matrix unless that little 90 degree bend between the thermostat and the metal pipe is blocked!

Check the foot-wells (normally passenger side) for any signs of water. It could be that the matrix is pissing this out into the footwell, but you should be able to smell the coolant inside the car and see the level changing.

Does the engine run hot at all ? You say in one of your posts that if you remove the Header tank cap it gushes out , this is normally what happens when you have a head gasket failure but im wondering if you have a really badly blocked rad , they get furred up with crap both sides at the bottom blocking half of the rad off , this would make it run hot but i dont see whay it would stop water getting to the heater ?

drain the system, shove a hosepipe on each hose or where you think the block is and hammer it.

if water comes through everywhere easily AND back out the other side of where it should be coming then no blocks, thats where i would start

do this

if you can put water up through the bottom hose away from rad, through rad, and also through head and heater matrix, at least that way you can confirm there is no blockages.

and go from there.

right started my car up again today after putting a new thermostat and checked the water pump all ok.
must be matrix!

someone said on here water enters via the top hose into matrix!

well why when i take the bottom hose off and start the car the water comes out from the hose and not from the matrix, beacause if it was entering the matrix throught top then goes through the matrix and out the bottom, mine must be the oposite on this case

can someone confirm or dissagree that the water should enter through top hose or exit?

The question is meaningless - what happens if someone has swapped the hoses on the matrix?

Ask whether the flow is from the Thermostat housing to the Modine or the other way round

Neil.

PS I'm not being funny - I don't know which way it goes, and would like to know

i have changed countless heater matrix in sierras over the years, if the car keeps its temp ok when running and on boost, just no heat its the matrix, very few pumps fail on cossies, as tony says above check the rad when warm (runningtemp) feel the rad all over if its hot all over its gen ok
