Some people may need to have another think before they spend a lot of money... Might need to go home and work out their finances etc?

But in that case they shouldnt have made it look like they were going to do a deal that day!

No offense but i'd rather be 100% sure I want to spend a percentage of my wage for a vehicle. You just cannot ponder it over with a salesman/woman in your face.

3 hrs is a bit excessive
my old sales manager used to say are you looking today or buying
(with a smile ) and when the punter says er looking,he would say
quickly, well its a good job its free today...
used to work a treat that did
i got taught the way to find out if someone was a messer or a buyer
and the golden rule was not to waste time especially if your busy
at the weekend with other punters mooching around

I understand completely its a lot of money for someone to spend, but the car was already £3000 under the budget they had originally told me they had to spend! so theoretically to them its well within their price range.

big_wig_074 i certainly am not here to SERVE people, i am here to assist, there is a difference.
Some people cant say yes straight away.I sometimes do it.I have to walk away from it and really think about all aspects of it i.e can i really afford it,do i really want it (without it being there looking at you).its a kind of cooling off period without going down to the wire. The last thing I bought took me a week to decide.Every day I thought "do i still want it"?then eventually went back and had it.They were probably thinking about all the abuse they will get in the future for driving a volvo

Might be because they dont know what the reserve price is and put a bid in for what they can afford. Then think "ah well I cant go any higher than my original bid"?am I missing something here?even I can figure that one.

i'm on about auctions where the reserve is stated in the original text or where the question has been asked and answered and the seller has posted it up so the reserve price is shown!

Why go home and think about finances after they have probably worked out what they can afford by telling the sales staff their budget, That i cannot understand,
You dont go and view a £30k car when youve only got £20k do you.

Maria - Is it Pendragon you work for?

you do get some strange ones

the best one i had when i worked at VW was a guy who came in - smartly dressed and seemingly completely normal, asking about a cosmic green Beetle we had on our forecourt
I gave him the details on it and took him out on a test drive in it - it all started to go downhill when we got back and made him a coffee and talked about financing the car He went on to tell us how he was a private detective and how he wanted something that wouldn't stand out - a lime green beetle i'd manage to pass him on to the business manager who was stuck with him for hours
One of the service staff recognised him and apparently this wasn't the 1st time he'd been in with tall tails

Passed the time in the day tho hey

Thats what dealerships are for, wasting time when you have nothing better to do.
Its called pay back for the SHIT service standard at astronomical costs you get later once you've bought the car.

I may start it myself as a weekend hobby.

New competition..who can test drive the most expensive car they couldn't afford in a million years.

Welcome to car sales. Test drives are the worst, especially with some old git who s a danger to everyone on the road.

Dont get me wrong, the majority of our customers are great... they know what they want, how much they want to spend, and BOSH sold..... but the worst is a customer who buys a used car... but expects it to be in brand new condition!

Always the case, i had a classic case of this a few years back selling a poxy 106,
I advertised it as "Not the best, hence it so cheap"
Some guy rings up, told him it was a stolen rec, had all work done just a few scrapes and a clean but the price is a fixed price non haggleable, so he turns up, said its got a few scratches and asked me if i was gonna clean it then tried chipping me £200,
Told him to jog on and think about our phone call, he ended up buying it though

I recently went in with my mum to a Mini dealer to help buy her car, and she found having a female salesperson a much more pleasant experience.

In true chauvanist mode, so did I

RichardPON believe it or not, it actually hinders me being female in a volvo dealership... ive had several men tell me they would rather deal with a male salesperson. And then some others just dont take me seriously and want to speak to a man after me! But then volvo customers are very old fashioned......

Warren I take it these take a cut of what ever you sell? where would i find em?

the worst things about sales in my experience is these bloody tv shows trying to give tips about knocking the price down. like you said - they go away thinking that the phone call an hour later will suddenly change the SIV of the vehicle!

or - give me a price and deal with this part ex - then turns up to the handover with no part ex! can we just take it off the deal - err NO!

im told that given time it is easier to spot a timewaster - but i still seem to get stuck with them all the time.

at least it turned out good in the end for you!
