Default RS Turbo Central Locking Problem

I'm sure others have had this problem.

The missus car has all of a sudden stopped locking on the drivers side.

If she locks it on the key it locks and then unlocks itself, if she locks it with her alarm plip it does the same.

However, if she locks it on the passenger side with the key and then arms the alarm, all ok.

I'm presuming its something in the drivers door, any ideas what it can be before I strip the thing down ?

More likely to be the passenger side that has the problem, using the key on the passenger side wont fix a problem with drivers side.

Usually broken wires in the door shut or dodgy connectors in the multiplugs...

they work on a switched earth system

you could try adjusting the actuator for the lock on the drivers side when it wears it doesn't engage properly and doesn't lock.

cheers

EH ?

She has to use the key on the passenger side to lock the car, its the only way she can lock it.

What will taking the fuse out do Alex ?

Presumably that will stop the central locking from working and then allow the drivers door to be locked on the key ?

The motor seems to be getting power Damo, its just as it goes to lock the door its like it can engage properly so it unlocks, you know like if you havent got a door shut properly.... but obviously all doors are secure.

By the door unlocking itself is a indication that the door is not shut properly but as you say it is so the best solution to try first is to clean out the locking mech in the door as the grease gets crap in it & goes hard making it more difficult over time for it to do it's job properly.

Failing that replace the mech in the door.........

It is IMO something to do with a broken wire... as you say gets power but for some reason it does it... all IMO ... but just saying check multiplugs (ideally cut off and join) and check for broken wires in door shut... IMO that will be your problem....

Can you still get central locking motors or solonoids from Ford ?

If so any idea what the cost is ?

Or should I just bung on a second hand one and hope for the best ?

I now understand why the problem is most likely with the passenger side, even though the symptom is on the drivers.
