Default FAO offshore workers

Hi all, just lookin for a bit info from the offshore folk if possible.

I go offshore to the Shell Dunlynn platform on Friday. This will be my first time offshore. Its been a couple years since i done my RGIT training so i have forgot a couple things.

Firstly whats the weight limit for my bags that i can take off with me?

Do i need to take all my own PPE, obviously il take flame proof overalls and boots but what bout flame proof jacket hards hats and safety specs, can i borrow them out there?

When i get to the helecopter port is my survival suit and everythin already laid out?

How many layers do i need under my survival suit? I think its 3 but not 100%

Any info much appreciated

Think the bag weight is around 15kg but if its too heavy they will give you a sack to put some of your gear into. I would take overalls and boots they should give you a hat and glasses as most places run different coloured hats dependant on the time you have been on the rig.
Its still 3 layers of clothing for a couple of months yet then goes down to two.
Theyt will ask you for your suit size when you go through the check then it will be laid out or given to yu in a plastic bag along with your plb.
Which heli port you flying out from?

If i remember rightly the Dunlin is off Shetland so it would be the fixed wing from Broomfeild house @ Aberdeen Airport up to Scatsta and then the chopper from there to the rig.

As you come down towards the airport over the speed bumps you will see Broomfeild house straight in front of you. Thats where you need to go to check in. Oh and if you smoke have one before you go in or it could be a very long morning

I am 5ft 11 and around 16ish stone and my suit size is XLR. Its better to be a little bigger because of everything youve got to wear below it.

You should be fine mate.

if its aberdeen it will be either bond or scotia, if your flying from bond i would say take the train up as its a nightmare to get parked around there and only a 5 min walk from dice station.Im offshore justnow till a week on tues.
Latest on my car is the ecu is in and the car is running but no mapping has been started yet, and allan is now away on holiday for 10 days(euan found out for mee the other day). I will give them a phone when i get home and find out the latest, but did tell them no real rush but hopefully get it back this time home.

you will gat a hard hat there mate as for your first 3 trips you have to wear a green hard hat,

as for your survival suit im sure it'll be in a bag with your name on it as your work tells them the size,

& i reckon you'l leave from broom feild house (right next door to aberdeen airport) then go on a fixed wing flight to scatsta then a chopper from there mate...remember to take a green arm band to show that its your first time on that rig...& a little hint..make sure your the last out the door of scatsta so you get the cumfy seats at the door of the chopper

Think im ment to fly from Broomfeild house to Scatsta (1 hour flight) and then chopper from there to the rig (2 hour flight). Not 100% how accurate the times are. The rig itself is ment to be a total dump as its one of the old one out there.

Iv gotta go up a day early to go on another safety course of some sort.

Im 6ft and weigh about 13ish stone. So im guessin my survival suit will prob be a large.

This mite sound silly but do i need to take any cash off with me for vending machines or anythin

Thanks again for all the tips guys

Default scasta

dunlin is through scatsta you'l90%be going through broom field house...get on the chopper as fast as you can mate cause every other fucker holds back to get the 2 seats by the door...last thing you want is to be sat by some fat fucker who won't budge his fat ass and you only get one cheek on the seat..it can be a long flight

some cash is handy cos i hate it when your squad gets the bond in & the place your at doesnt take credit cards yet

and to be honest the dunlin is a bit of a shit hole but you'd expect that being a shell rig

you wont be aloud out until you have your safety induction & its usualy late on in the day to allow others coming on the flights

any way what is it you do again mate as my mates dad going there soon to do something with gas turbines or sumthing?

any way have a good trip

Was trying to get a few days off there myself today actually

Play it safe with the suit and go for an XLR least that way you will still fit it to come home after all the free food and cakes

I used to take Ł50 max with me and that seemed to last fine. As i dont smoke it was only ever used for the odd box of Fazer mints

Ahh but 5 days can eaisally turn into a fortnight up in the Northern field especially with the weather we are having at the moment

If that happens all you can do is sit back chill and start watching daytime TV

Either that or Shell will interfield you to another platform up there

very much doubt its 2hr flight. I've been to a few old dumps up that way and they are generally about an hour. I have had a 2hr ride on a chopper and it sucks!

I usually take Ł20 offshore because you can eat as much as you want from the galley! You're being a fat fuck if you still need sweets every night The whole bonus of being away is spending no cash

I'm 6ft 4" and 13.5stone and take XLT suit so XLR probably good for you

You'll also get a special; green band round your arm for the flight as you're new and also someone to be your buddy

Best would be airport thistle. There's the skean dhu (spel) round the other side. Sure there's a holiday inn too. You won't struggle to get something

If you're really stuck and need a hand then pm me. I'm off to bed
