Default Gold membership = Value for money?

This is intended as a discussion rather than an argument

Do you think the Gold Membership scheme offers value for money?

Speaking personally I was a gold member but have not rejoined as I feel £20 is too high.
I accept the internet is not 'free' and am more than happy to pay a fair price to use sites I frequent regularly.

Another site I use (www.visordown.com) handles comparable traffic to pf and has a similar scheme.

It costs £10 a year and I'm happy to pay that each year.

For your £10 you get:

Free V2 visor sponge
A sheet of Visordown stickers
Increased PM inbox (10 to 250 messages)
Increased attachment space (2mb to 50mb)
Removal of Google ads (which aren't particularly intrusive anyhow)
As well as being able to post polls or change user title etc.

They don't feel the need to restrict users access to the site if they choose not to pay.
Every forum is accessible regardless of membership and selling is free etc.

If pf was £10 a year I would be happy to pay it and I'd think many others would be too potentially increasing the revenue generated by the site

Anyone agree?

I dont see why it needs to be as expensive as it is, because hosting is so cheap, and if it was a tenner you would get more members anyway.

but on the other hand im happy to pay it because I dont care if stu or pet makes a profit for providing a good service

I feel its value for money, i mean it IS only £20 - its not going to break the bank.

I have a Pf sticker thanks - thay have and always will be avaliable thru NUTS RuS on the board & Nikki at the Southend meets, why would i want any other free shite, it would just go in the bin

Anyway i look at my £20 as not going towards the running of Pf, i see it going towards paying for friends

I spend a lot of time on here, maybe not value for money is what you need to be looking for. Think how much the site costs to run and how much time you spend on here.

I think it is well worth it

Not really fussed tbh, the site is a wealth of knowledge (sometimes )

But tbh, its handy to have access to sell parts you dont need aswell.

from memory, PF makes a LOSS. so i'd say it isnt expensive enought

i think it could be cheaper if more people bothered to sign up. unfortunately gold members don't get much more than regular members, therefore the normal members have no incentive to sign up

i'm a gold member on another site www.escortrsturbo.co.uk and that is £10 which i think it fair

if passionford was £10 i'd join

For the information you have access to (technical rooms etc) and the opportunity to sell cars/parts,then i think it pays for itself very very quickly indeed.

Other sites may be cheaper, but are they as good as this one??

The only reason i havent renewed this year is because i dont have anything ford related to sell. If i get another ford and need to sell some bits then i'd join possibly.

when gold membership was first started, it was supposed to be a contribution, but was set at £20, which imo isnt a contribution its a compulsary payment to receive the membership

for the price you pay i think £20 is a tad expensive compared to what you receive on other sites, ie your own email address, webspace etc

i havent renewed mine and prob wont do for the time being, i dont use the rooms you get access to anyway apart from the classified ones, and cant justify £20 to be able to advertise the odd part here and there

ive been hear fora year or so & have recently got the gold membership & i usualy have loads of cars & parts etc to sell & buy but it was mainly the mans room i want no just kidding, but a stuicker would be nice
any way its probably the best website for car enthusiasts & if i have any question it gets answerd streight away so it shows how handy this website is so i will help by keeping it going by paying £20 so i recken it is worth it

PS. do moderators have to pay

TBH, nothing I've listed on here has ever sold. Every time my parts have ended up on ebay and sold first time. Perhaps a similar scheme to ebay where a % is paid to PF per sale might help increase revenue for PF and in-turn reduce the £20 costing to general members.

the £20 alone is worth the asking just for the advertising of a car,After looking at the poll results there is 1 person who has voted "they would not join at any cost"
So why the fuck do you use this site ??? fucking idiot
Oh and mods do pay

Its only £20 for a whole year, being able to sell, mens/ladies room, and knowing that you are helping towards upkeep and hosting costs.

I dont think its too bad really.

Good show chaps.

i thought it was a tad expensive, but some people put a lot of effort and time/money into the site and it only seems fair they be helped out where possible, this is also the best car forum ive used even tho people on here wear ford blinkers

But as people have said 20 quid per year is nowt worth worrying about is it, so i paid my gold membership again

i regularly use the MLR and find it shite compared to here, and thats £35 quid to join which i havent paid as i think its too pricey.

it seems £20 to some people is alot to pay out in one go

so what about doing a option so you can have 6 months for £10 then

then gives them the option to renew in another 6 months if they want to

£20 is nothing these days, and its was a contribution to keep this site going at the time, not to get free stickers and gifts etc....

now that the site has more sponsers and is now looking after itself, well i hope it is then i think that the membership fee could be reduced.

one thing i would say is i think the mods should get some sort of benifits/payments or something just for the time and effort that they contribute to the site, especially the amount of shite that they have to sort out spam wise and site wise,i cannot believe that they have to pay aswell, its like another job to them.

you all deserve something.

just my 2p worth.

Its a yes for me £20 is nothing considering the amount of knowledge/contacts on this forum. I often wonder is some of the members are actually using the site to its full potential. You often read posts in GD asking about turbo sizing, cam timing explanations and stuff. If you have a looky in the tech essays alot of it has been covered.
