best bet would be to try and phone the college to
see what course suits you, a lot of colleges do diffrent courses.
when i did my apprenticeship i went to college 1 day
a week on a day release basis from my company and that took
4 yr to get an HNC/D

If you know any local colleges they'll usually have a website ending in .ac.uk this is also used for universities though so make sure you don't try and look for Bristol college and type in bristol.ac.uk as you'll get the Uni.
Alternatively, google it.

john it always goes quiet before the tax year, then everyone (councils / contractors) gets their new budgets
we do have a big contract for network rail, just waiting for the jobs to start
i can work for other firms but they dont pay the same money that i am earning (even when quiet)
must courses im finding are a year long, can do week courses but they are all for experienced people

you might be able to get qualified to do domestic electrics in a few months but you certainly aint going to be able to do a good job with it. Trades like this need a few years of training and you still need hands on experience for a few years to get any good at it. Good luck tho.

with the work we have and also the way we work (price) its not ideal to leave the job for one day
especially as i seem to be running these jobs now
might have to see if there is anything else i can then, dont want a change in career just another string to me bow

Hi Gus,
My friend has begun a college course to become an electrician which he does around his job, he has to find 3 half day's a week from work. He does work shifts so it is slightly easier for him to find the time.
His course gives him technical and physical training (in the books and on the tools!!) at the college. It will take him 4 years to get a full qualification as an electricain. But the lecturers have told all the students that getting a job with a electrical company for the rest of the week would help there development, BUT it is not nessecary.
But if i'm honest i've been a spark for 8 years and in my short experience you'll go to college for 4 years, have to achieve a lot of qualifications during your time there (possibily the most out of any trade you will see on site!!). Yet when it all comes down to it there are a lot of other trades that will earn a lot more money having a lot less qualifications?? I'm not saying that they aren't skilled or talented because i have a lot of respect for all trades in the building industry, it's just the way!!
But (i'm nearly done now!! ha ha) I've got to say i have and still do love doing what i'm doing
And i'm glad that i chose to be an electrcian
