Basically,

Sonys version of HD-DVD. Although said to be able to hold more info

 

I was wondering the same thing.

Are these just HD players or is there a recorder out too ?

 

Currently there is only one HD-DVD player on the market - the Toshiba HD-E1 (or A1 if you buy the US verison) and no recorders (as there ins't any HD-DVD blank media available yet)

You can also get a HD-DVD drive add-on for the xbox 360

Likewise, there is one Samsung Blu-Ray player on the market, with Son'ys flagship model soon to follow. It was supposed to be be out already, but Sony shelved it whilst trying to pimp the pre-orders for the PS3 which is Blu-Ray capable....

Blu-Ray is Sony's attempt at high definition optical media, and much like HD-DVD, but has higher storage rates (50gb per disc instead of HD-DVD's 25gb)

And 8 days after the first Blu-ray HD dvd film was released, someone cracked the "uncrackable" coding which was supposed to prevent copying.
Was done quicker than the coding on original Dvd's

They do seem clearer than dvds, ive only got the 1 film for my ps3 atm, but the quality is spot on
