In reality however it was mainly a day of chronic understeer caused by a total lack of front end traction followed by spinning off when the boost hit.
Phil2400 was managing pretty well in his cossie despite the conditions though with some really good huge sweeping donuts, and JJ was doing a good job of impersonating a complete hooligan as usual (till his diff broke!)
No one really managed to actually hold what you would call a proper drift though, but everyone had a good laugh which is far more important anyway

the fastford drift car actually drove pretty well though, certainly better than any of the YB powered cars on standard cosworth geometry by a mile anyway.

Stavros was also there as well, but I dont have those pics handy as they arent in with the pictures ive taken for fastford mag, will upload a few of him later on though when im next by my camera

He had the roof up until the rollover bars popped up cause the M3 thought it was at risk of crashing (really it should pop them whenever he sits in it then ) so he had to pup the roof down as they stretch the plastic rear window otherwise.

look at that chav in his yellow 3 door with fog lights on leaning forward like he probably would if he was driving a nova (if he had one)

drifting is not about needing front end grip - it's about losing rear end grip before the corner so that you don't need front end grip. can be done with weight transfer and handbrake or downshift or both

Kind of true, but when its really slippy and you have a diff that doesnt limit slip properly, you need the front end grip to work with.

I lost count of the amount of times me or dan tried to explain they have MORE grip than either of us (i was on 175/65/13 remoulds front and rear ), we were a gear up on them too it seemed, but we doing ok

We explained what to do, but nobody listened, just mashed the throttle some more

Its Cossie disease, where power oversteer is the only thing that exists, and if the car dont do exactly as you want, its the cars fault, not your own

Stavros, thats bollocks mate, cause I drove both my car and fudgeys car, and without ANY doubt, his had more front end grip than mine.

Last time I checked the laws of physics, the last thing you want on standing water is wide wheels as they dont sink into it

you are right about I could have done better clutch kicking mine though, but my car isnt a drift car and i dont want to treat it like one, a bit of power spinning the wheels is fine, but fucking up my nice shiney new paddle clutch kicking it all over a bit of concrete that I only really took mine along to make up the nubmers for anyway isnt

I clutch kick my 3dr all the time, makes things sooo much easier than trying to power oversteer. Used to do it at drift days

Me or Dan shouldve drove one of your cars, im sure they not as bad as you think they are, but i guess we will never know.

Cossies do understeer like pigs as the geometry is bad, but you got to drive around it, beasting the throttle makes things worse, the conditions were so bad i was spinning out under power too much with 95bhp.

Dans might have more front end grip as the geometrys sorted, but mine err, is shit, you drove it, you know its "special" Ie shit

That wide wheels thing is poo IMO, thats what water channels are for, if it was true LeMans cars etc would change to 175s when the rain came down, surely

PS- drifting with clutch kicks wouldve been a lot better on the engine etc too, as in them conditions youd not have to go above 3k really and only do the lightest of kicks to get it going.
Ill never forget when i first started i did a day, was beasting it round like a madman in the dry, spinning all over the shop. Then let Kenny drive it and i was passenger. He never went over 3000rpm on a 230bhp or so 1.8 shitbox SX and was drifitng it better than i ever did

Phil proved that someone with real talent can manage pretty well in a cossie in those conditions, i wasnt saying it was impossible for anyone to drift my car, merely that I can do it better with more front end grip, im still very shit, but better than without the front end grip

The reason I didnt do perfect laps of interconnected corners drifting mine was a combination of all of the following:
too much power coming in too soon the second it hit boost,
not enough front end grip,
too much mechanical sympathy for the clutch form myself,
not enough talent,
not enough steering lock



Bit of an extreme example that, i could mention that they arent 12 feet wide either, its very dependant on many factors, not just width, there is NO doubt that dans had more front end grip than mine, but you were implying with your tyres comment that it didnt

My engine I couldnt care less about to be honest mate, im happy to sit bouncing it off the limiter or at high rpm etc without any consideration for it, as im building a new one anyway, this one is temporary and frankly I wish it would hurry up and die so I have the excuse I need to justify building the new one the clutch though i would like to keep in one piece as ive no intention of changing that.

Sounds like a plan, but I might have a go in my nova first anyway as thats got a decent diff in it and loads of lock.

I wouldnt mind having a go at learning to drift at somepoint, that wasnt really what I went for last week though, it was just to practice my power oversteer and have a laugh, I think to actually learn to drift properly I could do with going on an organised day with some instruction.

I was wearing a flouro jacket because I was taking the pictures for the mag, and I wanted the talentless cunts in the shite cars arsiing around failing to drift to be able to see me from as far away as possible to increase their chances of tank slappering off in a direction different to the one I was stood in relative to them.

The XR4i we had was pretty good for drifting as the front was quite heavy cos of the V6 it had. Used to slide for ages, even without a slipper.

Injuries sustained on the day were:

Tyre driven off the rim after a puncture
Bumper knocked off on a cone
Headlight smashed on a cone
and drivers side indicator wiped out driving into one of the internal buildings inside my workshop when Dan went for a spot on indoor drifting there
