Default What car for 2k?

Well, my bans nearly over and time to get a new car to run about in.

Gonna have 2k ish to spend, want something in a saloon, something with good mpg (probably a oil burner) preferably something with as many mod cons as possible (air conditioning & cruise control preferable)

And most important, needs to be easy on the insurance!

Any ideas anyone?

I'll have to go with paddy on this one mate, a cinkychonky wouldn't be very nice to do motorway runs cross county & in europe on trips! Would be screaming all the way

Astra may be a good choice, so will a 306.

nor is a xr2 but you still got one of them

why dont you just use the xr2 and get that insured,,,,, the amount your gonna spend on the new car will be alotmore than the price of buying a new car and depriciation tbh

get 1 car and use that,,,,,, just remember to keep your speed down

Because with a ban on my license no insurance company will even touch me insurance wise on a highly modified 250bhp 2.0 Turbo XR2 thats why and even if they would the cost would be enough to buy & insure a derv run about twice over. So need to build up my no-claims again.

Plus when the xr2 is back on the road its only gonna be a show/weekend car.

And the xr2 probably wont be back on the road until 2008

Plus need something to taxi family in, specifically my 82 year old nan & the xr2 isn't frail granmother friendly. Nor is it particularly friendly for doing the weekly shopping run in.

stu its not gonna be that much more mate,,,,, the WORST its gonna be a 50% load on the premium

when i JUST PASSED MY TEST i got a insurance quote for my escort cabrio of 1600 quid per year,,,,,, that was NO NO CLAIMS, NEW DRIVER with 9 POINTS for 3 offences,,,,, one of em no insurance

get the quotes,,,, a turboed xr2 aint that much to insure mate,,,, fitting a 400bhp engine dont add much more to it over a 132bhp turbo engine

get the quotes then decide mate

hell i was DREADING getting the insurance on the BMW when i transfered the policy from my cabrio over

the insurnance went up 100 quid,,,,,,

as for a weekend car,,,, im sorry but i find that pointless tbh,,,,, when i had the cossie running and had the escort cabrio i ALWAYS used the cossie until i thought,,,, fuck it ill use the cabrio as its not been moved for 3 months

then after a month i wanted to use the cossie again,,,,, just cause the cabrio was boring

i will no longer have a second car as its just a waste of cash for no reason,,,,, its great for people who own big power expensive cars with 10k engines,,,, but on a cheep car its pointles imo

the other reason maybe incase it gets nicked i supose,,,,, but again,,, the odd on it being nicked when out shopping is slim and unheard of apart from big shopping centres,,,, and even then i wouldnt bother visiting ones that allow you to just drive out but ones that you need to pay before you leave and use the ticket to get out

you life though and your money

and 2008,,, what the fuck are you doing to this car to take that long

when people do these BIG projects 9 time out of ten they either scrap them before finishing OR they finish them and think " what a shite car ive made" and sell them in bits

xrt-Si has fitted a 2.0 zetec into his fiesta,,,,, fuck knows what else and hes gone quite mental but when he had all the parts he took a few weeks to assemble and its now about to be mapped,,,,,,, dont need to take years for a project mate,,, just get em on the road and enjoy em before you get bored

Fucking hell ginge you still like your essays and digressing from the subject.

And I have checked the insurance quotes, a 2.0 mondi was over a thousand pounds.

I only want the xr2 as a toy and if I leave it out on the street its not a question of will it get nicked but when will it get nicked. I was paranoid about it out side my g/f gaff when I'd only spent 2k on it, I'm definitely not leaving it out when I've now spent nearer 7k on it.

Plus I want a car I can sling crap in (engines, gearboxes & what not) and not worry about ruining the car in the process.

And something the pigs won't decide to pick on & attract attention to it all the time.

As for the time to build the project that's how long its going to take me to save up to pay for it all!

I have a million reasons as to why I want a second car and this is not the reason for the thread.

So anyway, back to the subject.
