Default Best all year round tyres?

I need to buy some new tyre's for the evo but im unsure what to go for

I was out in it today & the roads felt really slippy - mucho fun BUT hairy at times

So i started thinking about how the tyres are the only contact your car has with the road so they really do need to be the best you can get!

What would you say was an all round good tyre (rain/dry) etc?

Just got a set of wheels with Goodyear HydraGrips on the front.

Read a few reviews and they all seem to praise the tyre. Had the car over some country roads the past few days, and they seem to grip really really well. Probably my next tyre. When I had Toyo Proxes, they were fantastic in the dry, but in the wet, they seemed a little slidey.

The hydragrips squeeling when corner in the wet! If that means owt.

I only ever put Bridgestone S03s on my Focus, cost me an arm and a leg but they lasted ages and I never lost grip in bad weather

Potenza SO3's for me too. Better than F1's. But you have to ask for them as most places dont advertise them, plus wait normally a day to get them. But a top tyre all year..

Bit off topic but was looking on mytyres and some tyres were listed as having rim protection - what is this and how does it work?

Cheers

in the reviews Toyo proxies come just above F1's and are cheaper....but u can get winter tyres (michelin do em) last as long as any other tyre but heat up better/quicker at lower temps

Ive gone thru 5 tyres on my fantastic 95bhp Volvo 360 since i got it the other week (4 rears and a front).

The only ones not to die yet are some classy Kingpins Seriously

So yes, i wholeheartedly reccomend you get some Kingpin remoulds from the scrapyard and put them on your Evo 175/65/13 like mine if at all possible

Rim protectors are where a part of the sidewall rubber protrudes out a few mill more than the wheel so if you kerb it you should feel it on the steering wheel before you make shit of the alloy.

My Dunlop Direzza's had 'rim protection' I'd say it's fairly overated. Anything more than extreme snails pace and there's no way a bit of protruding rubber will protect your rims. Well that was the case for me anyhow

As an idea, I tried to get a good price on a set of 4 205x40x17 GYEF1's and the cheapest I found was about £360 supplied only.
