when at speed my gearbox is extreamly loud like a rubbing/grinding sound


been like that for awhile and my dad never had it sorted and now that i own the car and its going on the road in a few months i want to know what it is

i was told the release bearing but i really don't know

cars done 129k if that helps

 

You have a hole in then floor only noticable at high speeds.

 

it starts at about 15 20 mph and gets louder

 

it will only be the release bearing if the noise comes when the clutch is down (ie when its being used)

The grinding sound you speak of, is probably the actual gearbox bearings being knackered, in which case its time for a rebuild or a new or s/h box

if its for the car in your sig and its standard i wouldnt bother with a new box

just get a second hand one from a scrappers and stick it in
