I first knew of cosworths when i was like 9-10, I went in my 1st cosworth when i was 14 stage 1 saph 4x4. I drove a cossie when i was 16.
I'm 22 now and I bought my saph 2wd cossie when I was 21.

The point im making is im 22 But im old school Ford. Im not a playstation kid, I have respect for Japanese Machinery, ive been in a 300bhp evo 4. gtr 34 600bhp+ genuine. I've been in a 280 bhp scooby with short gear ratios, And it was very quick, handled far far better than my cossie ever will. But you had to rev the poo out of it, the power band was between 5.500 and 7000. It just didnt pull like a cossie when that turbo kicks in and your pushed into your recaros.

I just wish ford stop making pooo's, stopped using front wheel drive, stopped using volvo t5 engines, and made A REAL RS. But that day might never come, because the future is restricted, emissions, crash safety, speed safety, cameras, ozone, ice caps, global warming.

It's a motoring icon, the Cosworth, regardless of the amount of negative comments these days (from people on here mainly ).

Love seeing them out & about and always enjoy a post meet playtime or travelling to a show with a few, even me & the missus in my 2 going to Donny last year, always good fun, even if she insists she wasn't hoofing the FRS.

Very rare these days tho, and most kids are clueless unless it's got 35 exhaust pipes and covered in plastic.

Edit: Did a trackday at Brunters in September with a load of blokes off a Porsche forum I use (used to have one), several of them actually asked to go out in the Saff and the FRS as they were amazed at how quick they were getting round Brunters. The owner of a Vanquish S (jammy git) came back in laughing his head off after going out in the Saff, couldn't believe how much fun it was! Had a go in his too.....WOW!

I personally love the saff and could have bought 2 Escorts almost with the money Ive spent on them
Problem with Escos`s is you spend 14-15k on buying the thing out right and you know that aint t even the beginning of the spending,so 14-15k turns into into 21-22k by the time brakes, engine etc have been added, that alone has always put me of buying an Escort
Saffs are perfect for the money IMO, thats what I think anyway

I always have people taking pics of mine asking questions.
But if one more person ask if its an RS500

I used to get lots of unwanted attention from boy racers driving up my arse when i had all the interior in but now its stripped and caged they stay well back

When I'm out in my 3dr replica I usually get "what kind of Ford is that?" or "what the hell is that?", the best so far tho "is that an Escort?" (American Escort, how embarrassing ). I guess I shouldn't feel bad, when the car still looked like a Merkur XR4TI no one knew what it was then either.

I took a guy out for a spin once and he commented on how well the car accelerated and handled, I did'nt have the heart to tell him it was 4WD

Most of the time tho it's just confused looks as I drive by

i see what you are saying dave but personally i want to rag my cos without thinking about fucking foglight grilles,500 splitters, hockeysticks, bumpers and shit like that.

at least with the saff if you prang it its not the end of the world,i just go down to kevs and there are a couple there with full ashtrays in for braking

as for the cant afford pish ,thats for the escos concours boys living in a bubble,i have had the chance of escorts and 3doors in the past and turned them down for the reasons above.

and sorry but if i was gonna buy a car in that price bracket(i.e for me up to 20k) it would be an e46 m3.

Not read the whole thread, but guessing answers are pretty similar to this:

When people see a tidy Cossie out on the road they do still admire them..more so the 3dr and Escort I think due to their appearance and road presence. Bit more striking nowadays compared to the run-of-the-mill motors about now. The sapph is more understated to look at..even tho the engines have the same capabilities. I think the reason you hardly see any about is the fact they are second/third cars and mostly used to go to shows and when the weather is good on the weekend.

Anyone into their cars with a bit of knowledge would respect them due to their reputation. I think there's a lot more Sapph cars used as daily drivers (or working class for the bufties ) as they are perceived as a more affordable and usable everyday practical car.

ive got a mint saph 4x4 havent driven it yet but prefer the saph over a 3dr plus i want to have a mint car AND enjoy it so every now and then it might be parked in a service station/carpark at a mates/birds house etc etc, but if i had a escos/3dr it would be out the garage drive it come home back in garage .......plus a nice stance on 18"comps and the squatting rear end of a saph CANT be beaten imo .......DAMN I WANT TO DRIVE IT ASAP.......oh well 3 months to go.

Like most things in life its a personal choice. Could have had any of the models, but only a 3dr or a rwd Saff in white cut it for me. The only reason I bought a Saff was because it had 4 doors & thats the truth.

hehehe Just teasing you Gregs, she's almost concourse

I got asked the same thing about my RST, in the queue out of the car park at Le Mans - wouldn't mind but was in between 2 3dr's, 2 Focus RS's and an Esc Cos all with RS owners livery

I think it's always nice to see a good clean example driving about. Last one i saw was an aurialis sp? esc cos pootling down the M60
There's also a tiny blonde girl who hammers a smart Imperial blue one round here - don't see her often, but she gives it some beans

Always admire a cossie when I see one. Like RSTs as well but its cossies that really do it for me.

I love seeing an Escort Cos or 3 dr but for me the saphs always been the one. I love the fact they are so understated. No big wings shouting out what it is. It looks hard without shouting its mouth off if that makes sense

Cosworth get respect whether on the road or parked up. I would say more than most cars, and id say more so than some supercars, like porsche and 355's etc.

Evo, scooby and skyline owners either snap their necks to take another look, or look, then look away so you dont notice them. .

As someone else said on another thread, all jap cars like the above, will always live in the cosworths shadow.

I almost always get a comment from someone at the petrol station about the car, and when at traffic light, a nod of the head or a comment. I even had a lad hanging out of the window taking pics with his mobile.

And it seems to be peole of all ages too, even old boys walking their dogs take a second look. Ive had a couple walk past while ive been outside cleaning it, stop for a chat about the car.

I would say, VERY few cars are given respect like a cosworth.
