Default bleed valve fitting

just a quick question,

i want to setup my boost on my car as ive just bought a boost gauge but instead of getting underneth everytime i want to adjust the waistage arm im fitting a bleed valve.

when fitting a bleed valve, i know one pipe goes to turbo compressor houseing and other to waistgate, but what i want to know is when you fit a bleed vlave do i have to turn the waistgate rod all the way clockwize towards the atuator so theres no thread left ?

thankyou

Before we tell you how to add boost, please tell us how your going to supply the extra fuel for that boost.

If you cannot tell us, then please step away from teh spanners before you have a very unmerry Xmas...

no you dont mate.

set the actuator to half-moon preload then use the bleed valve to bleed off until you hit the boost you require. (depending on amount of boost and actuator used, but generally,..)
with the correct fueling of course

the car is running megasquirt managment mate,

think im safe about overboosting, as ive set the overboost in megatune.

also think its currently running 7 psi so im only going to adjust it for extra 3 psi which is 10 psi mate.

ballin do u mean just set the rod half way?

Cool, in that case do exactly as Ballin explained mate. Preload by 3-6mm Max ideally and bleed the rest.

im useless at psi maths lol so does anyone know what 10 psi is in kpa ? cars is setup for 145 kpa overboost which i think is 7 psi am i right?

why do people say they are nasty ? all depends on what you do with them, ok i know most people get boost happy and turn the screw under bonnet, without any overboost protection enabled, causeing overboost and spikes,

but if used correctly then they are ok, megasquirt has the option for overboosting which is a good thing as it cuts out spark or fuel if boost hits pre overboost level.

Lee,

I said they are only good IF you know what you are doing. I've heard that Martin knows a thing or 2 about turbo'd engines and how to set the boost

as said,the problem is that people can mess with them too easily!!

an amal valve is essentially the same thing anyway!

eah its on 0 when engines off, it drops to 20 when ideling.

will let you know later whats its boosting however i fitted a bleed valve so i might need to make adjustments

69kpa = 10 psi

140 kpa = 5 psi ?

so the lower the kpa the higher the boost?

that right? as my car origanally was set for overboost at 145 kpa and i was hitting that and it dident seem that fast.

why the picture mate, i dont plan on blowing it up lol.

i fitted the gauge its hitting 5 psi then overboost kicks guess im going to have to adjust the overboost setting for 10 psi.
anyone esle running this psi? as im thinking my bov is not working because not enough pressure at only 5 psi.

And again,

6.9kpa = 1PSI

about 95kpa with the enigine off

So 6.9 X 5 = 34.6 + 95 = 129.5

So lets call 5 psi = 130kpa
