Just goes to show the Qtr mile is'nt always about the most bhp, but having a chassis capable of using the power.

atlast someone else see's this

AD-RS1600i - Thanks for your comments mate.

Karl - totally agree. 1/4 mile ET is all about a good 60ft time which is achieved by sheer grip and hooking the car up to use the power instead of wasting it. For example, Paul R's FRST is running a genuine 265bhp and doing 12.7sec 1/4's. 1/4 mile terminal speed indicates power. My theory is that you can tame the power to suit when you don't need it however there is no compensation for not having it when you really do need it.

Ok....I see in my absence turbo-5 you've yet again been contributing a healthy serving of your usual bullshit. Good work....why do you still drive yourself to come on here and diss RST's so much? I see that you were doing exactly the same thing to Lewis not long ago? Take a hard look at yourself turbo-5...your making yourself and the majority of r5 drivers look silly.

Anyway....for your benifit please see below :-

First things first, what makes you so confident that if someone with a R5 spent the same money as me would wipe the floor with mine? The thing that you fail to realise is the fact that it isn't at all about budget. Most of the hard work is research and development NOT money. Most people don't realise how difficult it is to get a genuine 300hp yet alone 400hp or any other amount out of an RST. Therefore in the world of r5's life is no easier. Infact ALOT harder. Further more I urge you to WAKE UP and stop dreaming about something that you preach that means jack shit as it only exists in only one place....your own dream world. IF someone done what your saying to a R5 then you would have half a chance of an arguement then ofcourse you'd only be proving to be right if what you dream was proven therefore please.....feel free to dream about it off the board as it really means jack shit. Oh and one more point....dream on as much as you want...mny engine aint EVER going in a r5.

Superb.....you've done it again, chatting complete rubbish about something that in actual fact you know NOTHING about. When I done my 178mph run...guess what, I was using a std RST final drive and gear ratio's!!!!! This means that STANDARD RST's are geared to do exactly the same.

Lastly you seem to have this whole capicity and weight thing on your mind. Let me explain something to you. When we talk top speed, having the same power in a car that weighs less isn't as much of an advantage that you seem to think it is. Aerodynamics, drag, power and sheer balls are more key players. After a certain speed the weight gets more and more irrelevent. Also you go so much about your 2.0l's...well the r19 turbo's have a larger turbocharged engine as do the ren21 turbo's. Why hasn't someone got one of those to beat our RST times? I think we all know the answers already.

Next please......

Thanks - Sunny.

Steve - fair play mate...I don't know too much about the Renault's as it's not exactly something I find very interesting.

ps- No dissrespect to the r5 boys but if turbo-5 is your mate you need to tell him to hush his bad breath as he aint doing you lot any favours.

I agree...still same mutual respect to the r5 boys as I get on with alot of them and never paint everyone with the same brush however not everyone shares this form of mentality.

right this really piss's me off, all the really quick r5's DO NOT run their cars as road going cars when they set these times, my friend from anglesey big G had the r5 that was featured several times in max revs etc, u will probably remember it as
being silver and gold with no rear seats and a 3 sub set up in the back half sprayed the same colour, he held one of the best times b4 ian nixon turned up, however if u asked him to race down a road like the m56 he would say fook off, not only coz of his shite top speed due to very close gearing of the r5 but mainly because the entgine would not hold together 4 that duration, and when he ran that time the car wasnt much more than a shell, his daily run around a cavturbo was quicker along the daily highway, but a lot solwer than my erst, what would u prefer

if sunny was to put his engine into a fiesta rs1800 shell wouldnt this effectively pi55 all over the you cant swap engines stuff that people harp on about?? ok its bigger capacity but in principle its a 16v fiesta rs... they did a zetec in a lots of fiestas so its not out of the ordinary to fit one and its still front wheel drive.

why dont the clio 16v turbos ever seem to do anything?? ive seen a few with conversion by prima or whoever but never seen any running?? youve got the option of 2.0 16v turbo there??

im intrigued at whats so bad with an escort that it doesnt get anywhere near the quarter that the fiestas and other cars get. its not down to weight alone.

oh and anyone got any tips for the quarter mile for a first timer?

Surely u have to put POD as the venue and not use TOTB Figures as everyone moans that there inaccurate, yet everyone quotes them

IMHO pod is the only place to quote LOL

oli did a 13.6 @ 114

First time out with 35psi pressure in road tyres.....

Watch this space LOL - Plus its a track car not a 1/4 mile car

On road legal tyres!

Melv - it's nothing to do with Fiesta's and Escorts dude. It's the fact that some cars perform better than others....end of. Escorts are much more aerodynamic and when stripped weigh fook all too. All bean tins you see.
A friend of mine (Tom) who works for Mountune is building a Escort with a highly tuned zetec turbo engine which will be the fastest, quickest and fastest track Escort RST without a doubt until then it looks like Sid has the fastest Escort RST.

Turned a bit into hand bags at twenty paces.

I really like R5's I think they are cool, and have full respect for the times people have got out of them. Probably my Fav R5 was the orange twin engined one from a few years back!

I have respect for all modded cars, they are all awesome in their own right (apart from Max poo Saxo and Corsas with massive body kits and K&N Filters )

Oh yeah found the faster 'proven' (for Dingy ) RS Turbo time and it is way faster than anyone thought even me....and it a CVH!!!!

11.471 second run at Shakespeare County Raceway with a RWD mounted CVH RS Turbo engine in a Mini!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Mini World page 55 this month!). must admit i'm thinking of getting one of these for a laugh while saving some money for my RST project might not work though as I am 6"3

Just shows you though, not all about BHP!

Its not at all about BHP, its about power to weight, gearing, grip, and at very high speeds, aerodynamics...

Im passionate about SOME fords Lee, i find it wierd and slightly gay how someone can be passionate about a mainstream car manufacturer as most of their cars are normal and plain.

Im passionate about certain cars, not certain manufacturers.

This aint what i mean tho. A lot of peeps just seem to really slag of some fords on here, and i think well fook off to another forum then LOL

I love the Ford RS type marques and stuff like the GT40, its brilliant. The main problem with Fords though is the rot factor; they just rot like nothing else on the planet, apart from maybe Mini's its really getting me down being the owner of a S2 and RSi look at Golf GTi's and Pug 205s of the same vintage and they are as solid as a rock mostly especially Pugs!

5 gt turbos get a bad rap for reliablity, bit like rst's and cossies I love gt turbos for what they are, a rapid, fun tunable car for not a lot of cash Its unfair to brand them unreliable, as just like any other performance car, far too many simply get the boost ramped right up, and people expect them to run 30psi with no other mods , come on, how many Gtt's and rst's have you seen with badly bodged in bleed valves , Oh and I am a true petrol head, and like ANYTHING that is fast and fun, ford, renault etc even some scoobys , but at the end of the day I.M.O on my budget and preferance, cossies are the way forward (and sideways, ahem)
