Default weird one.....car wont start

thought i would post up here while i had a quiet 5 mins at work, but will be calling stu for some advice when he gets in to work.

last night:

got my new closed loop chip, opened up the ecu, did the mods to the baby board, (only a trim of the pcb, no electrical changes) put on the new chip, and plugged the ecu back in.

went to start the car and nothing (engine turned, wouldnt fire up), went inside swapped the old chip back, refitted it and found that same, car wouldnt start.

this morning

refitted the closed loop chip, plugged in the ecu, and tried again, nothing. upon closer inspection i heard a ticking coming from under the bonnet, when the ignition is on. invetsagated and it was coming from the distributer, unplugged the phase sensor, still ticked, when i went to unplug the coil lead ( ) i got a big shock up my thumb.

so this may be the fault.

any suggestions what could be causing the distributer to be arcing out? and stopping the car from starting?

please

1st and most likley option:

Did you actually remove the babyboard to modify it?

If so i can almost 99.9% be certain you put the board in at teh wrong end. Leave the 4 pins at the NOTCH end (Nearest side case) Free.

The alternative possibility is you put the chip in backwards mate.
Problem is, if you did its probably knackered now.

Most unlikely option is the ribbon connector is slightly dodgy, just change its orientation slightly and try again, but im sure it will be option 1.

gonna investigate later and hopefully she will fire up after work

i have plugged the chip in the correct way round.

i checked the connections at both ends of the ribbon connector and they seem fine.

will have to wait till i get home before i can test the ecu, but i hope it is this.

need to get my car up and running again.

Stop getting stressed at old Tony's sense of humour. Go home and do what i suggested and you will be back underway in no time.

there is a fault with the ribbon cable from the main board to babyboard. it doesnt always make connections and position is very important.

currently trying to find a new ribbon or babyboard but it is proving difficult

got it started last night, and had it running, went to it this morning, and it wouldnt start
