and how long after ownership???
just weighing up how reliable the engines are
think most people have had a re-build, and prob the owners before and after them have had/will have re-builds
cossie engines dont seem to reliable.....
1)have you had YOURS re-built in your ownership?
2) how many times?
3) did it have a re-built engine when you purchased the car
4)how many miles before it fucked up?
carlos
is there such a thing as a 350+bhp reliable cossie engine?

my escos engine was fooked due to it going to PTS
the missis's 3 door done a piston because i was pulling it off the clock from Heathrow to Brentwood on the M25
my 2wd done 100k with no problems,
the missis's 4x4 saff was 340bhp, 115k with no pronlems,
my 4x4, now stage 3 must be over 115k with no probs.
if you look after them they should be ok

Yep, only the once so far, but thats because its a MAD engine
I bought my cossie on 102k and on 114k i had a rebuild. See my sig for rough spec. Will be changing to GT30 and Autronics in the new year hopefully. will be good to see how much a head with standard ports and a bd14 inlet can cope with

I bought my car with about 118k it was stage 1 tuned, i then threw in the greens, chip, pectel board,3 bar etc and ran it up to 133k ish before having a rebuild (M.A.D) upgrading the brakes at the same time(vitally important) as long as the engine has been put together by someone who knows what they are doing and are treated with respect i think they can be very reliable, its usually other things that shit their pants, gearboxes, driveshafts etc
all the joys of costworth ownership

i brought my car at 125k, with the intention it would need a build at that mileage ,but the car went on with no probs in stage 1 spec for a year,
i wasnt going to push any more power from a engine with that mileage on so i built an engine myself, low comp, the engine has now covered 45k on stage 3 , the last 5k on 55lb injectors ive never had to do anything to it ,absolutly faultless not even a sight of an oil leak anywhere ,the engine is as clean as when i put it in.... if you build them correctly, dont skimp on parts they are fantasticly reliable, unreliable yb's are mainly due to them being asked to produce power some of the components arnt made/changed for, shonky work quaility ,and poor maintainence.

exactly, you cant expect to thrash the hell out of it, and change the oil once every 15k..... if you drive it hard you need to up the service schedule , just like you cant expect a standard head gasket to survive 40psi of boost for long ,but people do, and then when it goes wrong...oh its unreliable.....
i go through mine every weekend making adjustments etc, and its been a fantasticly reliable engine to me.....

for an engine to be strong enough to cope with the stress these engines do they gotta be good, fair enough i fit a new block after 200 miles due to it cracking but then it was running over 30 psi so it was to be expected

Bought mine in the April, went bang in July that year. I made the usual school boy error and didn't check the oil
Probably about 500 miles on the engine after I'd bought it, it had never been rebuilt before. i reckon if I had kept an eye on the oil etc it would have probably lasted few more weeks

Mines still standard and I've now got problems with the boost being low
I rebuilt my engine last year had just over 100k on the clock and I didn't know its previous history, I discovered the big end bearings had very little life left in them and the piston rings were shot, I also changed all the gaskets/seals and replaced the cam bearings while I was at.

A1 rally sport built the engine in mine before I bought it in 1998 With 73k on the clock. I bought the car in september 2000 and melted a piston in june 2005 at 99k. I drive my car hard running 400BHP. so I was so impressed with the first A1 engine they built me a nother one.
Well happy. And still got the car now

Ours had what seems to be a top end rebuild at 60k. we got it in may on 108k, its now on 113k not really had any problems with the engine apart from silly little things like it having the wrong leads and plugs in and the temp sendor going.
it's standard btw
