was not at the cenotaph but my wife was, and we are both active service members of our beloved armed forces and we pay our respects in a way in which this country was proud to be BRITISH, just a shame that sometimes we dont see what a small country can achieve

while it's not for me, my wife goes to church every sunday.

but i made a point of going today for the rememberance service.

pisses me off at what the younger lads at work know about this sort of thing.

me and a mate have been a couple of times to the normandy landing sites, once on the ferry allocated for the returning old soldiers in 2004. escorted by royal navy warships and a canadian ship and a US navy ship.
very moving to hear these guys tell their stories first hand.

my sisters next door neighbour is an ex-lancaster pilot, and as far as he's concerned NOTHING is too much trouble for me.

can't express the frustration i feel when some c#ck says "the war's been over for years, can't we all forget it?"

no, we can't. when a war is forgotten, another always starts to take it's place...

I don't think anyone can even comprehend what those guys had to go through. The First World War was a complete hash, no tactics, just slaughter. People drive down the road and their biggest worry of the day is getting to work late, getting stopped by police and petrol. Its pathetic to think that the world we live in now thinks such menial things are the be all and end all of their lives.

As far as I'm concerned, the people who survived and sadly those who died were heroes. There is no other word for them. They put their own lives on the line day in day out, losing friends, family and 'brothers' through conflict. Even though they say the real heroes were the men who died in the war, I have the upmost respect and time for those men. Those were the days when men were real men.

I had my 2 minutes silence yesterday and today, but sadly couldn't watch or take part in any services.

Its a sad shame to look at the world we live in today, really is. People slag off the British army for being in Iraq, when really, its not their choice. Neither was it the choice of the men who went to fight in the Great wars. Its a shame the press puts such low faith in our men out there.

Looking at the numbers for The second World War is enough to show how much this time HAS to be respected by all nations.

Germany Military 3,250,000 Civilian 5,600,000

Italy Military 226,900 Civilian 60,000

Japan Military 1,740,000 Civilian 393,400

France Military 122,000 Civilian 470,000

Britain Military 305,800 Civilian 60,600

United States Military 405,400 Civilian -

Russia Military 11,000,000 Civilian 6,700,000

China Military 1,400,000 Civilian 8,000,000
