efi help again please
has anybody got a pic of the layout of an escort efi fuse box.bought my loom out of the scrappies and most of the relays/fuses had been removed
also when i start my car it tries to rev its tits off,not talking small air leak type revving here but trying to hit the limiter, anybody have any ideas what might be causing this,am using xr3i loom with ofac ecu and map sensor

check the inlet manifold is on right and also fits proper etc
had same prob with my frst years ago and there was a wire jammed between the inlet manifold when we put it on,was sucking masses amount of air thru it and just kept hittin limiter when started
oh and this was on a brand new ford engine
cant be good for the bedding in process
cheers for the suggestions guys, thought it might be the throttle flap at first but is shut fully also the tps but this seems fine, think i have the ofac stuff bought it off ebay the ecu has the ofac barcode sticker on it,and the map sensor is different from the old xr one its like a kind of offshaped rectangle one side comes down at a slight angle and the other is straight anyone got a pic of ofac map so i can confirm this lol, will need to check again for any air leaks around the inlet manifold as had a look as thought this was a possibility cant really run it to locate the leak though
can this icsv jam open then mate how do i check it is working properly,am i right in assuming that it cant be something electrical causing the car to do this,it has to be drawing air from somewhere either from a good old fashioned leak that is letting air bypass the throttle butterfly,or a faulty component like icsv letting air bypass throttle butterfly

They get sticky and can stop working.
Just whip it off and unscrew the motor from the housing, you will soon know if its working or not, should be springy and free moving.
The MAP sounds right.
Have you got a vacuum gauge, that should tell you a lot if you have an air leak.

use it to set boost as it is far more accurate than the 20 quid ones you can buy lol, where do i connect it and what kind of reading is ok mate
for it to be hittin rev limit it needs to be sucking mass amount of air,get a mate to start i and listen around back of inlet
only plausible explaination i can think of
are you runnin the efi head or mfi head with adaptor plate, could these not match up proper, just clutchin at straws here mate
defo a lot of air being sucked in somewhere

yep has to be getting plenty of air and possibly a bit of extra fuel as well,am using a fiesta engine and inlet mate full efi,no dodgy spacers lol
will have a look at it the morra, will deffo find a good air leak i think,my mechanic mate is going to give me a hand, think 2 brains ears and eyes will be better than one lol

Have you both only got one eye and ear then

Thinking about it the gauge won't be a lot of use, i guess if you plug it in and the gauge is reading next to no vacuum you know you have a BIG air leak.....but then you knew that anyway

,but couldnt be fooked changing it
thats it sorted now it was drawing air at the back of the manifold, some fanny had only tightened up one nut
,and yes before anyone asks yes that fanny was me
in my defence it is kind of dark in my garage
sounds sweet as a nut now, have known this engine since it was about 3 years old,an aquaintance of mine took it out of a 3 year old fiesta that was smashed, and fitted it into an xr3i about 10 years ago only had about 30 k on it at the time and has only done maybe another 2-3 k since it was fitted in the escort, got driven to ford fair and back,it has always been on standard boost and never hashed,so should be a goodun i think, still got the original sump on and it has like 1 small blemish on it and the block wasnt even rusty under the original paint

thanks for the help guys
,was just in such a rush to see what my freshly painted rocker cover crossover and inlet mani looked like i just kind of mocked it up and forgot to tighten it properly
still was quite surprised how hard it actually revved, have had cars with air leaks in the past and they just rev a wee bit faster or rise and fall a bit, thats why i was worried it was something else
thats me dumped the dump valve now after i gave it a good wee rev and heard that chatter
