Default Who is the current best broadband provider

Im with Pipex at the moment on 2mb at 23.99 a month as its an old contract.

From readings peoples posts on here you can get a lot more for your money, especially as i hardly use the net at home now.

I dont even download movies and games anymore, just the odd song, but that would soon change i guess once i get more download speed.

So who is best to use and how much for what bandwidth?

I have never had an issue with Pipex by the way, altho like most internet service providers their customer service is shit.

dont really wanna go with aol due to their past record and ideally i would want something more than 1mb for 15 quid a month as some of the ntl peeps on this board are getting a blinding deal (see other post)

Im with Tiscali and that seems ok
£21 a month for the "UP TO 8mb" deal, No download limit or cap (but a fair usage policy ) and with that you get your telephone calls to 01/02 local etc free (59 minute redial job) (still have to pay someone either themselves or telecom your normal line rental tho) so all in dont seem to bad
Oh and they managed to connect me within two weeks (shouldnt have done but I got them to send me all my settings by email, so didnt have to wait for them to send a disc out, and as soon as i noticed my adsl line there set myself up )

We've been with ECLIPSE for over 5 years now, have no complaints about them whatsoever. Customer Service & Tech Desk both easy to contact.

Just signed up with Toucan, £15.99 per month for 2mb and also £8.99 per month line rental (£24.98 all in) No more BT Line rental includes free weekend calls and 2p per min all other times

Only been with them 2 weeks, but all seems ok so far, and at least their customer helplines are freephone! unlike tiscali

NTL 1mb is £17.99 not 10mb = 10mb is £34.99 with NTL!

£17.49 pm for your first 3 months, then £34.99 per month thereafter.

I am have just cancelled my Tiscali account today in fact. Been with them nearly 3 years! Was on their "unlimited" 2Mb connection for £17.99 month.

My 2 pence worth...

- Price was good. Reliability of connection was good. Never needed customer service really. Fine for light / average user probably.
- But I am a heavy user, 3 of us in the house share the connection infact, so we were constantly falling foul of their 'fair use policy' 30Gb month not too unusual. Connection speeds were total shit during peak hours, which is the only times I'm at home anyway Propably 'cos they were constantly throttling our connection. Don't even bother with tiscali if you do Peer2Peer sharing or download loads.

Gonna move to company called NewNet. They offer 'limited' broadband packages, so you subscribe to a certain download limit a month. Its about £19 for 25Gb month or £21 for 60Gb month, connection speeds upto 8Mbits. But they do not throttle your connection, no port blocking. Ideal for p2p and downloading large files quickly. Just stay within your pre-paid bandwidth limit and your fine.

and the upload speed with NTL in some cases is slower than a fookin modem (its not all about the download speed!). Would not go near them as generally they are a shite company . Go with a decent ADSL provider like Zen or Nildram. Also make sure you go for the monthly contract so you can go somewhere else if you find them shite.

I yesterday signed up with Sky broadband at £10 a month for the unlimited package, upto 16Mb download speed. Been with BT since 2000 and on the whole they've been good but I am / was paying £27.99 a month which is absolutely horrendous in this age. Must have called them half a dozen times to see what they could do so I've given them the chance to help but the cheapest they can do is £17.99 for the very basic package which is still too expensive these days. Whenever I called I first spoke to some stroppy bitch who's attitude was 'take it or leave it' or when I spoke to BT Yahoo I ended up talking to a call centre in Thailand or somewhere and all they wanted to do was flog me something else which was still too expensive.

Anyone else with Sky ?

Your half right, that is correct, however phone up and kick off saying its cheaper else where, and you want to disconnect they offer you 10meg for £17.99
