really?! i would have thought 40 or maybe even 60, but 80k is pretty high!

its just ive got a minter of a 32k engine waiting to go in the xr, but dunno whether to bother changing the belt yet or not.

80k i would have thought 60K max really. When i had a std 1.6si lump the tensioners onit went around 60k i think . Luckily i pulled over when the tensioners started making a nasty noise and as the cambelt cover was off i saw the belt was really slack and saved the engine. It did slip a tooth though .

i would personally change it along with the tensioners as they are the main thing that goes.

I changed my belt and tensioners on my 2.0 lump after only 20k as it had been sitting a good few months after the clutch went as its not worth the risk imho

yeah i had a tensioner let go at about 100mph, bearings had disapeared, it was just the metal inside that bolts to the block, and the plastic wheel bouncing around it. dunno how long it had been gone for but i pulled off the mway and it was making horredous noises, i thought it was the gearbox as it was properly dying also, drove to a mates house, had a look and realised what really had happened sooooo fucking lucky! the cover has got 3mm groves in it where the belt and tensioner was rubbing on the cover! good job it was on or the tensioner would have blatantly come off

this is why i wanna know when it needs to be done, if its not due till 60k i wont bother just yet, but if its due at 40 i might aswell do it now...

yeah i know what youre saying rab, especially seeing as its gonna be seeing the loud end of the rev range more often than the quieter end.

im tempted to put up the phrase if it aint broke dont fix it....but not really the attitude to take towards cambelts

supose i might aswell change it for the 50 quid or whatever it is for a cambelt kit.
