Default postage problem, advice required please??

Story is i sold a set of carbs, chap payed me but the post office have lost them.
I have a proof of postage reciept that covers me. But the stinger is that i sent it standard parcel service via royal mail, which unknown to me, does not require a signature! So i have no way of knowing if the buyer has actually recieved them and now he is requesting a refund.

I have filed a claim with the post office but as ever they are dragging there heels!

Can any inform of where i actually stand on this?

IMO if you've sent them and have the recipt from the post office then they guy needs to take it up with the post office. did he pay postal insurance?

Politely explain that as soon as Royal Mail reimburse you, you will send his refund imo.

And never use Standard Parcels again!!

That is the course of action i told him i would take, however he is now implying legal action, police etc etc and wanting a refund with immediate effect.
And i agree about the standard parcels!
