I would happily pay £1500 if I had a cossie - lol
Sorry, should have provided some info, here goes:
Escort 1.8si P 1997 5dr
Only a couple of mods:
Full magnex exhaust system (not decat)
K&N Induction Kit
16" Alloys
Might not bother mentioning the induction kit though cos insurance companies get scared and if it came to the crunch i'd plead ignorance 'modified? well i'll be, dont know what the original one looked like sir'
but a 4inch exhaust is a bit too obvious to plead ignorance etc
Cheers

Got my Cossies insurance through Adrain Flux £1200 fully comp and was 24 at the time, have no major mods to the engine just a K&N and Mongoose Exhaust. 17" wheels, lowered big brakes. None of them made a difference to the premimum as they just removed any vehicle cover which I can get in January

I got quoted 900 tpft on a saxo vts, just to see what the diff was between that and a cossie pmsl....im sure you can guess i went and bought a cossie!!!!!
Id luv to know how they work out insurance, it dont make sense

I tried tesco online and they wouldnt do it, might try ringing them up though if they do modded cars. If they insure a cossie I dont see how they can argue!
Oh and I worked for car insurance company for two years and still dont know how they work it out!
Cheers TemptRS, I will check it out

Your forgetting some other things which insurance is based on.
Age, Location, NCB and convictions.
Adrian flux are a good bet though.
Incidently- you might say "i'm not paying 900quid" but if thats the cheapest you can get - you will be.

Think the quote I got with Adrian Flux through HIC, as they seem to be broker.

age could be an issue.
modded cars always add a loading with most companies as seen as higher risk.
why not buy a fast standard car? the insurance prob wouldnt be much more

yeah tescos are good and im with Norwich union at the moment, paying 420 fully comp on my GTi and thats with 4 yrs no claims and im 22
Age helps ALOT and no claims bumps it down abit, i think when your another year older and got another years no claims it will come down 100-200, but right now i think you'd struggle to get it below 700 to be honest!
Try confused.com aswell, it will search through loads of companys for you and return the results cheapest/highest in about 1minute
Let us know how you get on

Cool, I got some material to go on there, and three days to do it!
And I have to go to work from 9-5!
Er......Im gonna have to go mugging just to pay for the insurance, my car can't be worth more than a grand. I would have to do some serious mugging to get a fast std car. Would be nice though. lol (*disclaimer - for the record I do not go mugging nor do I condone that sort of behaviour)
GTI_iTG - im with NU D at the mo but they dont know its modded
and im not telling them before 20th incase they somehow pull a fast one and steal my 2 yrs bonus from me for non-diclosure.
My renewal premium is £750 and cheapest quote with no mods is £550 with the AA. Tescos are £800 without declaring and I tried confused elephant etc and didnt get anywhere! ! !
Insurance is so random though, what is cheap for one person is well expensive for the next when your circumstances seem similar.

Defrauding Insurers is not a route that we can condone or suggest, pleading ignorance will not be regarded as a plausable excuse (especially as youve carried out other modifications to your vehicle). Non-disclosure will only result one way, namely in presented claims being repudiated and your being placed upon collective registers that all Insurers have access to.
If you think finding Insurance is difficult now, after being refused cover and added to the QUE or MIAFTA registers sourcing cover will be a real problem to you.
For the sake of an "air filter/induction kit" it's simply not worth it. Surely if the Insurers in question accept the exhaust they will accept the filter??
This isnt meant to be a lecture, but as a broker (and vehicle enthusiast) we do see both sides and are exposed to these situations dailly - my advice would be to be upfront and forthright, look for modified vehicle specialists or take time to thoroughly explain the purpose of each modification (& its impact upon your vehicle) to the individuals that have provided you decent standard vehicle quotes.
Kind regards & best of luck sourcing cover.
Tony
