Default Fuel and ron ratings

hi all, i have a 1.3 nova autograss car, i currently just use unleaded...would i notice a difference in performance if I use higer ron rating stuff like the shell v-power or the BP 102 stuff...also does the carburettor and other modifications affect how well the fuel has an effect on my car lol...cheers

think you would notice a bit of extra power.

thats why big power cars run on race fuel,a lot higher octane in it.

no difference at all unless you set your car up to take advantage of the higer octane.

Get it mapped to take advantage of the higher RON/MON.

i.e. more ignition advance etc.

Is it a standard 1.3 Nova engine? You'd be talking negligible gains imo. Not worth the expense.

no the engine is modified... the engine is fully balanced, 3 angle valve seats....dellorto carb on mk1 astra sport inlet..skimmed head, the fuel to air mixture passes through a 32 mm restrictor plate...would any of that make any difference?? when you say mapped do you mean a session on the rollers...also rules state it has to be pump fuel so no race fuel allowed altho additives are permitted

Or raise the compression, as well as advancing ignition.

You could get reasonable gains % wise,by doing the engine work as well, but the expence involved isn't worth it. It'd be cheaper to fit a bigger engine if the rules allow.

Just seen your post while I was posting. If it's a race spec engine, then it might be worth playing with the ignition advance (ie paying someone to set it up for Vpower)

well the rules state 1.3 maximum and the air/fuel mixture must pass through a 32 mm plate...so its trying to get every little bit of power out of what your allowed...hence the fuelling question

compression, cams and fuel and ignition are about all you have to play with then. (turbo? )

cams have to be standard...and the compression is slightly raised, so if the fuel was around 103 ron (v-power+millers CVL) and if i had the ignition setup correctly approximately what power gains would i see over the 95 ron stuff...bearin in mind in the sport an extra 2-3 bhp is quit a big difference

It depends how well it's set up now. Less if it's well set up, more is it's not so well set up.
I wouldn't like to give a figure as it would be a stab in the dark, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't enough to be noticeable.

you would notice a difference, yes. Advance your timing a bit aswell which will give it a bit of extra go.

don't know a figure tbh but you'd just feel the car would have that little bit more go in it.

In that case any extra bhp is gonna be worth the equivilant of 1.3bhp, so if your power to weight ratio doesn't go up by about 10 ie you make at least 6bhp more I'd be surprised.

(get it sorted so we can find out )

sounds good...i'll put some proper fuel in at the weekend and see if i notice any difference...because of the 32 mm restrictor 3-4 bhp makes quite a differnece...

Just putting the fuel in and doing nothing else won't make any difference. You'll need to get the ignition timing redone.
