lol i was honestly gonna say XR2 but then could be a bit biased too. RS turbo or zetec engine goes in pretty easily, cheap to pick up, cheap tom maintain and are generally a hoot

Easily upgradable too, cossie brakes go striaght on etc...

Know you said ford ideally, but would say a 205 or valver nova/corsa for cheap reliable fun. If its ford go for a xr2 but good luck trying to find a solid one for cheap.

then again,xr2's??? doesnt get much better for a trackday car this 1, depends on what he wants to pay though, to get a standard rusty old nail to decent safe spec is gonna cost him, hell and this one can go on the road,if only i could cancel the new kitchen and t.v......

Why go for wrong wheel drive?

Surely he will have more fun in a sierra?

Sling a 24valve in it or summat, dead cheap

btw best track car has to be a 205,,,,, but if you want a nice cheep and fairly decent car then tbh the fiesta rs1800 or 16v xr2i are nice choices

Toyota Corolla Levin GT-Apex (AE101 - 1992) with the 20valve 4a-ge engine in.

Mine is bog standard and it'd rape a standard 205gti, XR2, RS2000, RS1800, etc around a track.

The spec is amazing on them, basically track spec as standard (they raced them in Japan in pretty much standard spec). 1.6 na with just shy of 160bhp and 120 ft/lb's of torque. Excellent handling, mine has Superstrut suspension which is basically a double wishbone system, no body roll what so ever. The ride is rock solid. Good braking, discs all around, with decent front callipers. Short ratio gearbox, throttle bodies, 4 into 1 manifold, 7,600 rev limit, 5 valves per cylinder and variable timing.

Mine cost me Ł750 (no MOT).

They are quite rare and a fucker to get parts for, but as a bog standard car, you'd struggle to find anything for similar money that'll come close.

This was the one I bought...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I did see a white 4A-GZE (16 valve but supercharged) one for sale on ebay a few months back, think that went for about Ł1700.

I wasn't sure exactly what they were like but thought it's worth a punt, well chuffed with it.
