I think 450hp with the right setup can achieve 10's. It's all about that all important 60 foot.

this calculator

http://www.web-cars.com/math/qtr_mile.html

works out that a 900kg ( 1980 Ib ) car will need 430bhp to hit 10.508 in the quarter at a terminal of 140.6614

hope that helps

Terminal seems too high for 430bhp though. Would expect it to be 130mph or something.

Difficult in rwd Cossie.
Lee is fastest RWD at the mo 11.43 & hes been trying for some time to get in the 10's. He has circa 600bhp. Im always being told mine is just a Topspeed car, well a 10.5 sec rwd Cossie would just be a Drag car, its more difficult to combine the two with the limitation on Tyre widths etc.
Rod

If Lee had Danny B's old backend he might be there by now?

Those calcs are all pretty shit.

If you MUST try and guess from calculations that arent accurate, get hold of cartest.exe, at least that takes more things into account when its guessing, like the aerodynamics and exact gearing.

So a Cossie with 430bhp can reach 140mph in 10.5 secs if you lighten it wow I want to see that. Kevs Escort was near that with around 600bhp & all the kit but dont know of many others. A rwd with 430bhp would struggle to reach 100mph in that time . Come on lads show me the reality of these feats not just calcs.

Rod, you are the only person in this thread talking about cossies, everyone else is talking about a 430bhp 900kg kit car when they are quoting these numbers.

Chip - not competing you plonker.

Rodders - You do have a point, as I said the terminal sounds a little too high however Chipper does have a point about you being in constant cossie gear.

lmfao at the calc used above

my astra does a 12.6 second 1/4 at 121mph and had a 2lt turbo with fmic and a chip set this is a proven 280bhp spec

it also had 100bhp of nitrous

my astra was around 400 bhp

the calc above thinks that with 257bhp i will do a 12.6 @

and with 400bhp a 10.8 @137mph

i think its safe to say that calc is SHIT

Not really, there are novas and astra in south africa running NINES, only way they are going to get a 10 is if they back off halfway down

Hardly road legal though Chipper. There are Focus's running sevens and eights in the states...again hardly road legal.

Indeed, in fact i beleive that there is a 6 second FWD gm drag car in the states.

Crazy stuff, and TBH just proves what Rod was saying earlier about dedicated quarter mile cars, NONE of these cars would be any use for anything else.

For novas as a "proper" road car still (as in daily driveable and handles ok etc) 11s is pretty much the limit TBH

Nope, just something ive heard bandied about, seems unlikely to me too, but on the other had ive seen the sort of things they run over there, massive wrinkle wall slicks on the front and bike tyres on the rear etc, with everything made of carbon etc.

will try and get some details, might turn out the 6 is an exageration and its really a 7 or 8 too, hence i said "i believe" as opposed to "there is"
