its hard to say mate

ive always had my pc on during storms and nothing hapened

only probs i had was when i had a power cut and it surged my pc

luckily it blew my power supply onl but still an 80 quid power supply

so its up to you what you want to do

but from now on ive always used a surge protection extension just to be safe

i thought it was only with the old dial up modems, as they're directly connected to the phone line to the motherbourd where as now broadband modems are external.
