House prices? They were underpriced to start with and have done a major catch up. Young people moaning they cant afford them...its cause they havent saved up for a good deposit...they have 'lived for today' as they say and pissed thier money up the wall (*some) Most people around my parents age say it was just the same when they were young...very hard to get on ladder...

Don't agree with this statement. Yes it's always been hard to get on the property ladder, but now it's almost impossible. Property prices have gone up massively in the last few years, far more than wages and interest rates.

My sister and her now husband were advised 5 years ago to get on the property ladder quick (they were intending on renting for a couple more years and getting married first) so they bought an ex-council house in a shitty area for Ł89000. They've just sold it now for Ł150000. Takes the fucking piss. It's all to do with supply and demand, there's too many people wanting cheaper housing and forcing the prices up.

Hundreds of thousands of immigrants spring to mind......

I have lived like a pauper for years scrimping and saving, and I have now over Ł10k tucked away for a house deposit, and a little bit more "thanks" to my grandad passing away and leaving me some dosh. I have lived on a showstring under the realisation that house prices, over the last 5/6/7 or so years have risen a good 12-16 times faster than wage rises!

so I have the deposit, thats fine. You tell me tho how I am supposed to afford a Ł120-Ł150k house on the money I earn? (which I bet is a damn sight less than you)

And it'd be easy to say "get another job then" - not as easy as that, as pretty much anyone out of work knows. I am skilled and learnt a trade, but it's quite a specialist trade (maybe 2500-5000 in the whole of the UK do it) and other than that, I am not qualified in anything.

I don't see why the government and the estate agents should dictate to me that I should carry on living at home till I am 30-odd, by which time my wages would have risen maybe 4% (adjust to inflation and cost of living) while house prices have gone up another 20% or more.....

Either way, gonna vote blue as there's always the chance of em bringing about another housing price crash

In your other thread i suggested a good way of you getting more money for a house but you never even replied so you either didnt read again OR you just dont want to better yourself mate . Yes i do earn more than 16k a year, i earned more than that when i was 18....but at the same time i dont earn mega bucks.

House prices imo are fine now as they are. If i was a 1st time buyer i could afford to buy one....not like one im in now but like i said my parents had to start off in a bit of a dump and work up to their nice bungalow. If you only earn 16k a year then your in the start off in a dump bracket and work up...or change of career.
