Marco

Phill has looked at my diffs - I have 3.9 diff front and rear, and both visually appear intact and basic tests that were suggested to me over the phone seem to check out.

I have no idea why they are 3.9s ( I guess they're from a XR4x4?) - the car used to be 270 bhp before I got it, and only had a few mods so changing the diffs seems an odd thing to have done.

I'll hoik the diffs out tomorrow eve or over the weekend and bring them up to you for inspection / testing.

I'm really pleased the Mullit box is absolutely fine, as once fully tested I want one permanently in my car

kjc300 Kev - as soon as the box is in the car I'll head up to yours for a road trip and you can give it a drive and see what you think. I personally think that the noise is perfectly acceptable - it is not intrusive at Motorway speeds, but at lower speeds with the windows down it sounds ACE.

Si
Hi Simon

to be honest even if you have 3.9 rear diff and a 3.9 front diff will not make any differance it's still equal on the VC

could you also check your clutch/drive shafts while your at it just to make sure everything is ok

i can collect the diffs of you and check them over and make sure they are working right no probs at all mate

the Box should be ready sometime next week you can then fit it in back in your car

your diffs will be serviced /looked at so you might be better off to collect everything toghter

I can always meet up with you and drop the stuff off

cheers marco

Marco.

obviously gathering your turn around time etc.

what are you expecting the final costs to be for the purchaser supplying there own box in exchange - maybe dropping it off and collecting again when ready.

Also creeping over from another thread, if i was to get the 909 front diff casing - what other things would you recomend for this diff before fitting to the car - and again maybe the costs involved please.

PM is fine if you'd rather not disclose full costs at this stage.

Cheers

Evening Marco,

I think it's best if you and the rest of the MULLIT CREW ( ) take a look over them just to make sure they're ok... or not as the case may be.

In order to fairly test the box I think it's best to be 100% the car is 100%, if that makes sense.

Maybe go down the route of upgrading them to FULL MULLIT spec while I'm there - that's what I'll talk to you about tomorrow. If they are 3.9s out of an XR4x4 from what I've read they're not as strong as the original diffs, but if they are up to the job I'd like to keep them - I'm not after a top speed car really...

Cheers

Can someone explain to me how come the car lost drive? I can think of no rational way why failed VC would make it loose drive apart from having failed driveve/prop-shaft or diff as well?

I know fromexperience that the car will go just as well as normally with failed VC only will behave like RWD/FWD when it has lost it's grip.

Even with wrong diffs/step-off gears, VC would cook itself of course, but the car would still drive, it would handle like a pig though and eventually silicon fluid could damage the centre differential, which would be working quite hard to keep up with different axle speeds making the oil boil at some point.

Anywaym there must have been some mechanical part broken, not just VC.

Hi lads

let me try to expalin ...lol.... a standard cossy 4wd uses a 7" 3.62 CWP VC rear diff and a 3.62 CWP open front diff

basically the mullit box had standard step of for a 3.62 normal cossy but with a 60Nm center VC

Now Simons car is a 4wd but he has a 7" 3.9 CWP VC (from a XR4x4) rear diff and a 3.9 open front diff (from a XR4x4)

however it would still be the same 1.1 with me ok

Simon has killed his 2 other boxes exactly the same way he has killed the VC's

when we striped down the mullit box there was absolutely no resistance on the VC nothing the seal was melted and full of oil

the box was 100% perfect working in every single way there was nothing wrong what so ever only the VC like i have expalined

we recon that Simons front diff isn't working right or has a problem and his car might have been rwd for a long time hence burning out the VC these do not burn out for no reason at all !!!!

a few things could cause the Vc from not working right, wrong ratios /wrong step off / wrong size tryes on differant axels / driveshafts/clutch slipping

we took the VC out of the box then put it on the Dyno tester there was not even 1Nm pressure basically fooked ..lol..

I have got nothing to hide , if it box had broke i would have said so simple as that really

cheers marco

iam not blaming your box marco, you have missed our point,if the vc had burnt out as often happens should the car not be 100% rwd then?thats the experiences we have had with rally cars, lose all drive to the front but still have rwd.

perhaps somebody more technically minded could explain this to us.

edit the thingy for you as well mate.
