Default Does Bore Affect CR?

As above really geezer on E36coupe forum reckons it does.

Is he right or is a coming his way?

Right confused myself here.

This is what he said.

The trouble with this engine is that the bore is maxxed out pretty much, look at the increase between 3.0 and 3.2, it's all in the stroke. That's also the reason the compression ratio goes up, the cylinder chamber volumes are the same. If you look at this engine with the head removed there's a tiny gap between each piston.

So any increase in capacity will come from an even futher increase in stroke that wouldn't neccessarily be the right thing. Also the compression ratio would need adjusting etc. etc.

Yes bore does have an effect on C:R but so do alot of other things such as swept volume, combustion chamber volume, deck height volume, gasket volume, piston volume, etc. etc...

Only TWO things effect the CR ultimately.

Change in swept volume
Change in unspwept volume

Boring an engine increases the swept volume and therefore increases the CR
(assuming the same cc piston dish etc)
