Some shocking 'pants down' goings on in this thread and not just as regards to rip-off prices either Some people need to stop brown nosing others or acting as mouth pieces in the same predictable way
If you want any engine work or an engine building take it to 1 of the following 3 places.
Karl - NMS
Stu - MSD
Mark - MAD
If your on more of a budget build the thing yourself its hardly rocket science and at least you will know who to blame if it goes tits-up
All of the above are experts in their field and i know you will get a decent job for the money you pay!
I could comment on the main point of this thread but Angel45 has laready done this re the same engine.
There is far too much bullshit in the Cosworth world and especially when it comes to so called tuners and their bitching about one another

Harvey's name is clearly missing from this list which I believe is incorrect!
Harvey is an excellent experienced engine builder as he has proved many times over the years. One guys misfortune on here does not automatically make Harvey a bad engine builder.

This is detracting away from the topic of this thread and other engine issues with Harvey from the past are not the issue.
If we want to bring up old issues about Harvey and EA then I could easily bring one up which is quite a different story!
However, from my perspective, I find Harvey very helpful and he built me a fantastic engine still going strong after nearly 2 years! And I will gladly use him to build my next engine!
If you want my two penneth worth however: Air injector pipes do not just fall off by themselves!! Nor do chips mysteriously re-write themselves from having a sticker plonked on them.
My comments above are not a diss at anyone in this thread, merely an observation!

Ian the list of 3 tuners contains the 3 people that 'I' would trust to work on a Cosworth that 'I' wanted working on! It is based on qaulity of service, value for money , customer service, after sales service as well as the performance of their work.
My oppinion and i am entitled to it!!
I am not basing my oppinion on one engine build but on many years of Cosworth ownership and modifying etc....and that of a good few friends of mine!
People can either take heed of what i have said or dismiss it as that is their choice.

As a matter of fact ....
Chips (EPROMS) can and do change data by theirselves depending
on many circumstances.
Age, Number of time its been erased/reused,amount of ESD it
has been subjected to, temperature.....
(ESD - Electro static discharge)
Its more common than people think as alot of chips have the data
checksum test disabled so that a "tuner" can make changes without the
ecu going into limp home mode.
Not saying this did or didnt happen in this case.

Testing the future
maybe also worth pointing out is that electrically disconnected air injectors do not automatically give unlimited boost - the turbo still has to be capable of producing that boost and if the engine is not loaded up enough it won't.
still don't understand which nut came loose

Why have a 400bhp engine if you nothing about it, you should of learned more about engines so you can point your own finger rather than other people, 11k is a joke 8.5k for a 400 bhp is a joke, get you hands dirty and do it yourself then you only got one person to blame. engines are not the hardest thing to work on just takes abit of time and effort to build one, still so sorry to hear that you have had this problem mate.

wow!what a read.and very interesting.i had my car chipped by harvey 2 yrs ago its now 350bhp with t34 and 148k and hasnt missed a beat, now i have taken it off the road to get it painted and an engine rebuild for more power.i can honestly say in the 3 or 4 times ive been to harvey he has given me great service. the problem i have now is who do i go to for the rebuild.
i originally had 3 builders in mind.
1 reyland(who no-one has mentioned on here, should that say something to me?)
2 stu at msd
3 harvey.
now i will have to speak to all before deciding and customers,to get idea of what i can get for what money.
but im also realistic to know that every tuner/builder has people who have had a bad experience.its the nature of the beast but its finding whos the more relaible.imjust very worried about dumping alot of cash into my car and it crapping itself.because i couldnt do it again!!
im very suprised and sorry for your grief rich,as stu said it shouldnt happen to anyone.

I would`nt say dont pay someone but it does no harm in learning a bit about engines, and if someone sprayed my car i would like to know what i should look for, its easy just getting it done but when you buy a car you have a good look dont you? I agree that most people would rather not build there own engine and know turners out there do great jobs just wanted to say dont be scared in taking in information on engines!

Personally.. 8.5k sounds about right to me.. assuming its all new like you say.
200 block- Ł600
Wrc Gasket Ł400
Ported head/Cams/Double valve springs/New valves/ Ł2000 ( not inc buying the head- assuming yours was usuable)
Cossie pistons Ł800
Turbo - Ł700 (upwards depending on turbo)
Injectors to suit Ł300
So theres Ł4800 quid without the other bits like gaskets/bolts/machining work/fluids
I dont know how much to add for that but lets say it took the price for bits to Ł5500 and thats assuming the crank and rods were usable??? if not- decent 2nd hand stuffs gonna cost abit- so in fair ness maybe we're up to 6k in parts..
Ł2500 profit for a reputable builder who has put your engine together expertly - who has over heads etc- say he charges Ł50 quid an hour.. thats 50 hours spent- Prepping, machining, building, testing etc your engine.
Sounds quite acceptable to me..
Now- if the parts were your old parts then maybe not so good.. But you said Harvey threw them away so not bad at all??
I am sure I will be corrected..

You have got to feel for Richard, he has spent ALOT of money with Harvey and reading between the lines its not the type of problems or the amount of problems he has, its the bad customer service and excuses he has had with these ongoing problems
I KNOW there are others out there that have experianced problems like Richard and been treated in a simlar way when they have encounter problems be it big or small, so this doesnt sound like an isolated case.
Hope it all works out for your Richard and its a shame Cossie ownership has been such a bad experiance in the time you have had it.

didnt say it was his fault did i. the point i am getting across is that he is faced with people pointing fingers at each other and he has no idea which one is to blame? so you never check your car when someone fucks about it? and someone had to tell him it was rattling and sounded like a bearing? could`nt spot that! yep well you guys spend your money on something you know nothing about, and moan when you dont know whats wrong with it!
