Default Front-wheel drive Evo!!

I can confirm, and I speak 110% honesty here, that Gary converted his Evo to front-wheel drive today!

It's not easy to do either, he must have been determined!! Must be the influence of driving my RST!!

He broke the rear-diff a month or so ago, when he took one of our customers out and demonstrated the launching abilities of a 380bhp Evo.

However, he has since fixed that.

To convert to FWD, he had to modify the internals of the transfer box. Just to give you an idea how bad he wanted to have just the front wheels driven!!

Well, it certainly manages to spin 2nd gear in the dry with no problems.

There is a very real reason for this. Who can guess it??!!

He wants to be able to run it on the RR and map it! We are finding that we spend so much time working on customers cars and getting cars ready for tight deadlines etc that our own cars get neglected!!! So, he bought another transfer box and has modified it to run FWD. Once mapped he can, of course, revert back to 4WD. We just don't have the time to map it on the road!

BUt surely the load on the engine is different, and I would have thought it would take less time to just go and map it on the road than mess around swapping boxes

If the RR can load the car up fully, like a Dyno Dynamic Rollers can, it dont matter if 2 or 4wd, as the rollers will be able to hold it at a set RPM even on full throttle.

Surly it can't be a time issue as said above refiiting the txb is gonna take up enough time that you could of mapped it on the road. Would be nice to see a erst evo though

It took Gary half a day to sort the Transfer box out and now he has a modified transfer box that he can swap in a couple of hours that will allow him to dyno-map his Evo whenever he wants, using his Dyno Dynamics Rolling Road!!

Makes perfect sense.

Sounds very similar to a friend of mine who drives miles to find a cheap
garage for petrol but forgets that he has just used extra fuel to get
there

Oh well, hope Gary get the results he expects even if it is done in a round about way.

I guess until you understand the benefits of each method of mapping, it won't be easy to see the advantages of being able to do it either way.

Christian and Beccy,

I understand all aspects of mapping perfectly thanks.

If you understood the performance car market, you would have bought
a 4WD rolling road.

Likewise!!

But an extra £45k on a 4wd upgrade isn't currently justified when we are booked for 6-weeks with 95% 2wd stuff.

If you understand all aspects of mapping, you will understand that just as there is often no substitute for mapping the car on the road, there are also definate advantages to being able to monitor the car fully on the Rolling Road and have full control over where EXACTLY on the map you are for starters!!
