mother in law has just had her TALK TALK bb set up onto her pc by my brother in law.
anyway, as far as i can make out the set up goes as follows.
mirco filter in phone socket
phone extension cable plugged into micro filter
another mirco filter plugged in the end of extension lead
phone plugged into filter
line cord from filter to modem
usb cable from modem to pc

question, does it matter how long the usb cable to the pc is ?, as he has moved the pc from the living room where she wanted it, to the hallway so its nearer the filters/modem

The maximum you can have a USB cable is 5 meters before it affects anything. Then you can get a powered usb hub which will allow the cable to be longer

so wat if i get a longer line cord from the filter to the modem , and then use a shorter usb cable?

As far as I'm aware, the cord for the telephone cable can be any length, so would be easier doing it that way..

Or Wireless!! What internet connection does he have? Surely you are restricted with using USB over an Ethernet cable?

Go wireless, and only need 1 microfilter, the one that plugs into phone socket on wall

Pretty sure the bit quoted in bold would be describing "double-filtering", which would cause problems......if you've got a microfilter plugged into a standard phone-socket, then an extension cable, you wouldn't need another filter on the end of the extension-cable.

Bearing in mind that a splitter-box does no filtering, the following diagram "may" help to clear things up a little, taken from my work's Support-site:
