Default Rev Counter

Put a Stack ST200 rev counter in me car on Sunday and have a few llittle issues with it. I've wired it as per the instructions and set it to work with a 4 cylinder engine but it seems to be showing a lower rev level than the engine sounds like its doing if that makes sense Also, occasionally the needle will bounce or drop down and return to where it was.
Checking the troubleshooting on the instructions it says it could be that the ignition system is providing a low voltage and I need a amplifier?? Or that there could be poor grounding to the ignition system.
Has anyone else got one fitted and had any problems?? Is it just me as usual?? Stoopid car
I've got a grp A coil fitted if that makes any difference

anyone got any ideas?? Been looking into wiring diagrams etc, from what I can gather the standard rev counter goes into the coil for a reading via the coil supressor. I've bypassed this and gone straight to the coil with fresh wiring like the Stack info said. Will this make a difference to the reading?
Goddam wiring, I hate it
