Default how much power can let pistons take in a zetec turbo?

im planning on building a 2ltr zetec turbo over the next few months.
i have a set of c20let pistons in the garage. how much power can these take?

i dont have a problem spending the money in the right places, but if these will take over 300bhp with out moaning about it i dont feel i need to spend a few hundered on new pistons as im not going for crazy power.

i want to build the engine more so i have done it, and have a nice engine to put in something like a mk5 escort convertible.

but if its iffy using them for much over 250bhp i'll get some decent items.

what is the next stage of pistons for the zetec turbo?
also when do you have to start worry about the rods?

cheers guys

Mahle C20LET's have been reliably used to well over 400bhp....

Use the standard rods over ~270bhp at your own risk..

Dependant on your piston/bore gap the LET piston has been used in engines upto around 400bhp.

Bore gap standard is 1-2thou..... increase this to about 3thou max for high boost/power applications.

Anything beyond this then it's advised to change to aftermarket

so the pistons are good for what i would chuck at it. but rods might need up rateing.

are there lots of rods avaliable for the zetec?
and do i just use standard rods but with the let pistons?

As matt says, the pistons can easily handle 400bhp, 500+ is not unheard of on the standard ones, they are basically the same as cossie ones.

There is only so much air you can stuff in an engine before you need to raise the engine speed to achieve your target power

i got a set of wiseco pistons made specifically for a 2.0l silver top, rated to 700bhp lol

and got a set of carrillo rods made to suit

both are std replacement items for a silver top, although i did go to 0.5mm oversize pistons.

all supplied by neil rickets of Kronos Racing Products - A division of Kronos Engineering Solutions Ltd.
Sales Office (01594) 821000
Mobile (07799) 855641

Depends on power/revs I guess...... What turbo you planning on using ? are you realisticly (sp) gonna see over 250bhp ?

im not looking at going more than 350bhp tbh mate.

but if using uprated rods with the let pistons is a problem then i'll look into getting some pistons.

probably a stage 3 t3 turbo.

not sure on what exhaust housing yet.
im not really sure what power i'll be looking at.
the head ive got dosent have any cams so instead of buying standard ones i might get some decent ones. to stick in there.

not sure what power that means i'll be getting. but probably not a lot over 250 if it even makes it to 250

Beardy is the username of a lad on migweb........

Them rods in the pics are the same manufacturer as my LET rods.... Bought on a "group buy" they were Ł270.... think they are now going for Ł350 - obviously ours won't be suitable for you, but I'm sure he'll probably make some up for very good money

i was thinking that. as people have told me that you have to make the zetec gudgeon pin fit the let pistons.

would that be right if using standard rods?

any ideas how much rods are to buy.
something capable to taking 300bp ish and made so they take the let gudgeon pin?
