Default insurance loopholes or a way to get insured?

i'm 20 coming up 21 in july. i own an escort cosworth 1995 that ive had for a year nearly. i managed to get insured by insuring a ford fiesta 1.1 fully comprihensive and driving the cosworth 3rd party with my dad insuring the car fully comp. i payed the two premiums it came to about £1300 a year for both.

i've just got the car running after it being in the garage for 6 months and still paying the insurance. now my insurance has run out on both cars.
i rang up to carry it on for another year and my insurance company have said i cant do this anymore and i have to be 25.

I'm stuck for options as i dont want to have to go back to a small engine car. i now have 1 yr no claims bonus.

how do u get a traders policy.

ive joined the RSOC yesterday hoping it will get me discount

ANY IDEAS ive tryed confused.com and elephant

I was in exactly the same position as you mate!

Were you with norwich union by any chance?
I was so pissed off when they dropped '3rd party any other car' as it left me completely in the shit.

Unfortunately it resulted in me selling my s2 which I still regret to this day
There's no way around it I'm afraid, unless you pay the premium and insure the cossie yourself.

Traders policies are for traders only, and you will need to prove it.

good good. a number of companies wouldn't quote me when i said modified and under 25!

boncaster and greenlight are the first places to ask as they tend to understand modified cars. also try churchill's online quotes for a rough guide. got mine down to 860 FC if it was standard being 22!

Is there any way at insuring you through the business? Or have you put down as an employee with a company car?

Can't remember which company it was that asked this classic question, but people are right when they say some insurance companies don't understand modifying (or cars, for that matter)!

The following is not made up, it's word-for-word what I was asked:

Insurance Muppet: "Would you class the air-filter as not being performance-enhancing, when all it does it filter the air you're breathing inside the car?"

Suffice to say, I won't be getting insurance through them!

Sorry if it sounds like i'm splitting hairs. But surely no insurance company in this land would allow someone to insure a 1.1 and drive anything bigger than that engine third party. even back in the day this wasn't allowed, so its not a new thing.

If it was like that, everyone would be doing it. You shouldcheck with your insurers, i bet they say you're not allowed to drive anything above a 1.2 if you are insuring a 1.1

Insurance Factory are terrible. Had problems with them.

Try Tesco i was insured with them from 20 to 21 on a 4x4 Saff. But remember its standard and you only do up to 1000 miles a year. Car is garaged and you do drive another car...

if they state insured on another car third party, they mean another car third party, think it excludes cars owned by you, hire cars and cars used in race and rally etc. I no cis used to allow it but elephant don't.

snowy, you're right NOBODY will.

it's stated in the T&C that this isnt allowed, so you're effectively driving uninsured.

try this, when you ring up for the quote tell the peson on the phone what you intend to so, they'll tell you to fuck off.

great, MORE uninsired drivers hiking up my premiums

i think you are playing a dodgy game, if its proved your the main driver of the escos they will void your insurance anyway, plus should you really be driving a escos 3rd party anyway. sorry but the insurance companys are there for a good reason and if you cant afford to insure the car why did you buy it!! im not bitching its just where insurance is concerned theres no short cuts.

I insured my old saff at 21 with tesco for 850 quid. Had a Cat1 and tracker which they insisted on. The way i got round it was not telling them it was modded
Not very clever i know, but i tried the 'insuring a cheap 1 litre' method and got told i cant drive anything over 1.0.
All ligit now, standard xr2 with 56k miles

You drove a Cossie third party...

Try the back of mags such as Fast Ford, there are insurers in there which are specialists for modded cars and young drivers, Adrian Flux are apparently good. You can't expect the likes of Churchill to understand a modded car.
