Default Rebuilding the 24v Cossie lump

I have decided to rebuild my 24v lump as it shows of a leaking head gasket.

I've heard that things like main and big end bearings are no longer available,is this true?

I also got a number for a Barry somebody off Jim Gallaby(sp) at the Ring, does anyone know this chap and does he have a website?

Cheers for any help on this

rocker gaskets only ford and you have to buy rocker cover aswell

i ended up scrapping them cus of things like bearings and rings are very hard to get hold of i tried every engine place in cov and nohing

yes i would say

you can try top boss for the bearings and rings as im sure it would of rebuilt a few but most places dont list them

have you spoke to karl?

carnt even find anywhere for the torque settings as theres no haynes manual either

its not hard stripping them down i have full pic by pic and i wrote down whats what aswell when i took them apart

only hard thing is the bottom pulley, i scraped a crank trying to get one of them off but i wasnt thinking and top boss wanted 100 quid for th ecrank, i bougt a complete engine for that

I've spoken to Karl and he said he could help me out sourcing a few parts if i was struggling. The problem with Top Boss is he's mega expensive IMO

Cheers for your help

unless your building a top spec tuned engine, id say go find a complete 24v granada, with little or no mot, and use the engine from it, as these can be had for less than Ł300 complete, flog a few unneeded bits off on ebay, allmost a free engine

Well i have had my 24v now for 7 years and it still don't use oil and starts first time

I have no idea how many miles it has done but i must of put about 30k on it.

If it breaks just buy another.

Yes i know Barry and he's a good chap He also does Rocker Gaskets.

barry from xr4 spares over in essex (don't want to upset anyone by advertising but i'm sure lots of people will know him over on interford ) does tensioner arms

and the reason fitz is so pricey is that he's probably the only one who can get the bits so you can't knock him cornering the market

the bottom end is basicly the same as the nromal 12V V6, it's the top end thats the problem

burton do gasket sets for them but make sure you get the right ones, they are different for the BOB (frog eyed) from the BOA (granada)

when i priced up a set of big ends they came to a bit more than i paid for the car, and when you put into context the price for mains, if they are avialable, at Ł8 each side it soon all adds up

a lot of parts are the same as 2.9

only difference is piston rings

duno about the crank as why list bearings for a 2.9 and not a cosworth or say the same as a cosworth v6

the crank is different
as are the pistons
as are the rings
and (as far as i can remember reading) there is somethig about the rods too
and, while we are at it, so's the block

it's based on the 2.9 so you can get the bottom end perspective there on how to go about rebuilding it

but as for the blocks, they have more strengthening in the webs of the crank and don't have holes in them for the tappets to go

but other than that

what about these engine exchange places? wouldn't one of them have access to spares if they were needed?

i tried everywhere lol

its one of them engines that doesnt blow up or too expensive to rebuild its easier to go out and buy another engine

they are very strong engines though

12v vs 24v is like pinto vs YB imho

most bits avaiabel from ford/butrons.

those that arent are availabel from barry and fitz.

i personally wouldnt use fitz again for anything unless i was REALLY deperate and he GUARANTEED me next day delivey on parts.

also rebuilding the engine PROPERLY aint worth it imho. cheaper to replace engine with anotehr if it breaks. but if you wanna do it, just got for new gaskets, shells, mains, rings etc. and leave the big metal bits intact (ie pistons, rods, crank etc. etc.) just for a bit of a freshen up.

i must admit tho, i'm planning on getting mine rebuilt

Evening Jimbo,

I've just seen this thread. FYI I've finished a 4wd sump girdle for dave's (Stealths) race car. I'll post pics soon on my site. David White also has a girdled turbo race engine as well as the TVR track car which is doing the rounds. Seems like it's a good mod

The chevroletls1.com site is my site if anybody's confused.
