Anyone Clued up on employee rights?
Im 20, been working part time (30hrs - 3days a week) for an autoelectrical firm for 10months now. Ive never signed a contract or any paperwork regarding work times etc. I did work full time (50hrs a week) for about 3 months before starting back at uni.
now im on a pathetic wage and getting pissed off with the job, ready for leaving but it was brought to my attention last night that i should be owed paid holidays. never had a day off other than tuesday and thursday for uni and bank holidays. Ive also been told that as i work Monday, Wednesday and Friday that the chances are i should get paid for bank holidays to, which I havent been.
Just wondering if this is true. if so how many days paid holidays am i owed for the time ive worked. Also how do i go about getting this back dated, same applies with the bank holidays?
thanks in advance
Chris

Without a contract, you don't really have a leg to stand on I am afraid.
However, if you can prove you have received regular wages from your employer, you may be able to do something.
If he/she paid you cash, you're on your own I am afraid

you should be owed pay for bank holidays if you were scheduled to work that day. but without a contract stating your regular shift pattern there doesn't to be much hope im afraid!

So far as I know you are entitled to a statement of terms and conditions or contract of employment.
No one has an automatic right to paid bank holidays - that has to be laid out in the Ts and Cs. Some folk get 25 days including the 9 statutory days (or whatever number it is now).
And unless it has changed you can't go to a tribunal with less than 24m service.
You might want to make sure he has been paying your tax and NI for you. If not it is you that is hurt.
