Default Fitting 18s to Cossie 4 x 4 - How?

Howdy folks, I need some advice on fitting 18s to my Saph 4x4

I have currently: 17 inch 7.5j 5 spoke Comp MOs, running 205/40/17 tyres, these clear my 330mm brakes (just), do not rub any where and the cxar is at least 35mm lower than standard on Avo coilovers.

They fit using 6mm spacers (not ideal, but doing the job) on ET37 offset wheels (the size I got them in 2nd hand)

I've now got some 18 inch 8j 6 Spoke Comp MOs at a fair price, but need to know how to get them to fit!

They are ET32, and clear my brakes easily with no spacer needed

But, with a dummy tyre fitted (225/40/18, the only 18 inch tyre I have in stock at the mo) they don't fit on my car without major chafeage

So would simply chopping the inner arches and manipulating the wings do the trick? Being on coilovers I can easily raise or lower the car as required.

I could also get myself some 215/35/18s very cheaply (handy being in the trade) but not sure if this will make em fit or not ???

So, anyone tell me how they get 18 inch rims to fit on their 4 x 4 Saph?

Cheers
Simon

Alvyn - thanks matey, that's what I thought may be the case, just wondered how much butchery was also needed, or things like getting the offset just so so.

Hmmm, any one else?[/b]

Hi Simon

Had 7x19 et38 fitted with 215/35/19s on mine no probs. Rolled the front arches and removed the arch liners. Only little problem i had was the wheels moving back under very heavy braking and rubbing the back edge of the arch/side skirt.

Et32 will not work properly on a Sapph to be honest. You need to be around ET38 ish and run 5 profile tyres.

My Dad's car runs on 225/35/18 tyres on ET40 MOs.

There is a 41mm difference in the diameter between your 205/17's and your 225/18's mate!
Get some 215/35's and they will fit without problem as they will only be 12mm bigger than your 17's!
Used to have the same wheels as yours on a saff i had with 215/35's all round and all was fine

Blimey, thanks for all the replies folks - will have a digest through the above and write some more later!

Think I need to dig through the store for some smaller tyres to try on...

Cheers all

Si,
The only issue maybe the offset, as to comforatbly fit with minimum mods, we use ET35. ET32 would probably be "do-able" on a 2wd, but a 4x4 with the different offset front hubs that stick out further is likely to cause you grief with the arches.

Hmmm, I'm prob being thick as I'm not sure which way around ET's go (think smaller no = wheel sticks out further in the arch )

But could I possibly (if I have this right?) machine the rear hub face of the wheel down, from ET32 to ET35? As in skim off 3mm of metal?

Thanks so much for everyone's advice - they look smart, but running with half the tyres tread outside the arches isn't really ideal!

You're right with the offset, the LOWER the number the MORE they stick OUT.

Regarding maching the wheels, be VERY careful as the Mo's have steel inserts and you don't want these popping out.

ET32 is do-able on a 2wd - in fact ET30 is, as that's what my old MOs where, but I had NO arches left.
