Default ZVH Engine problems

Right chaps been helping a mate out with a poorly 2L ZVH

Problems are very lumpy running like on 3 pots, loads of black smoke at 1200 rpm as will not tick over, sooty plugs.

swopped all parts for known working items:
plugs and leads
dizzy cap and arm
injectors.

Engine has never been run and is using a ferriday decomp joint @ approx 7.5-1. Using MFI turbo injection, std cam and ecu at the mo.

Tried disconnecting the cold start valve but no joy. Valve timing is a close as it goes with out a vernia on a ZVH.

you have to turn the dizzy right round to start it but then adjust to keep running and then will not restart in this possition

Only been ran for short periods at tickover and 3000 rpm as something is wrong big style. My head is fried now and need some fresh advice.

Cheers for any help / suggestions.

Bri

All the injection system come off a working rst but been sat ages. plugs on right way at first pot 1 was flooding and soaking the plug really badly and slightly on pot3 but sinse turning fueling down a bit all plugs are now dry but really sooty. It sounds like its running on 3 and when you remove the plugs and fire it over bucket loads of fuel comes out

Nothing to do with decomp or timing IMO, seen plenty of these buggers going strong. Management must be at fault, will be replacing metering head with a new recon spare and swopping all sensors plus jusr found out the petrol has been in the tank 18months so that wont be helping too much

so whats been done to the car? mfi conversion? or is it a true mfi rst? iirc theres a wire that can get misplaced and cause it to overfuel on the ignition, as i think mfi has a start-up enrichment circuit, if thats not correctly fitted it will over fuel like a bastid, mate had a mk5 turbo and we changed everything when it was overfuelling, also started when you held the dizzy right over one end, would run for about 5-10 mins on the spot before the plugs fouled sounded like it was on three too.. i shall speak to him to find out what wire, basically tho he wired it up using a fiesta turbo diagram but a couple of wires are different

worth a shot, if not pm safechav he's real good with wiring probs
