thought they had to be steel as the crank sensor is magnetic.

isnt there a sensor which gets its timing off of that pulley?

if that is the case, then an alloy pulley, being non-conductive, will screw the sensor up

doesnt necessarily help.

is the sensor too far from the pulley?

or more likely, (not sure if this is right, or if I am explaining it very well, but) the sensor works by sensing a 'hole' in the steel pulley at one specific point, so does the metal cap run all round the pulley and have a small 'gap' in it at all? is that gap EXACTLY at the right point on the pulley

does that make sense at all?

I asked a simple question as the word you 1st typed both in your heading and the main body of the post itself meant fuck all! Normally i can make out what your trying to say even though your spelling is bad but on this occasion i couldn't.
If you have a poorly made alloy bottom pulley then bin it and put a perfectly good standard one back on, problem solved!
It may not have the same impact when you drop it into conversation as when you say 'but i have an alloy pulley on my YB' but it will work a lot better
