Piper vs Kent My Results
Right me bros erst had a piper cam 285 running 190 bhp on optimax back in january(cooler)
Today i went to the same tuner but i fitted a kent 34 cam running optimax and today was bloody hot. car came out with 196 bhp.
So there u have it no more arguments over whats best.
now if today was cold like january i reccon 200 bhp would be on the cards

As said above, same day, new cams, same rollers, same ambients and yeah it would prove something. Prob is how old was the Piper when it was ran up? What condition were the the lifters in? Did it have a vernier? Same plugs, same age? Ignition leads, rotor arm, cap, etc all the same condition? No tinkering since the last RR? Same wheels, etc, etc, etc, etc. Could go on forever and the answer would be no, the car wasn't the same as it was before

Did you know that your test shows absolutely bugger all.
So it made more power - so what?
At what rpm did it make the power - higher or lower? Gain or lose torque?
What were the coolant temps, ACTs, ambients etc etc etc etc etc
Clearly your one little bit of knowledge that you thought you had has dropped you right in it................ TWAT

its a touchy subject, i think the 285t is better than the 285t2, any how,
after problems with 'piper' cams & their shitty attitude i would not buy
another one.
i have never had a problem with a 'kent' cam, so would deffo buy another.
as for 'stevo' he is just stating a fact of his, why you all so pissed off?

Because it's a fact with no evidence, and he tried and failed to insult me
It's the equivalent of saying that I went to the shops and bought a packet of crisps that tasted nice, and another pack tasted slightly better.
What I didn't tell you was that the first packet were eaten after I'd consumed a chocolate bar so it soured the taste.
Crap comparison but it actually happened today

The only properly fair test would be to drop a new Piper cam in a car and run it up and then swap the cam for a new Kent one and run it up again.
Personally I've never had any probs with my Kent cam and my bro also uses a Kent cam in his FRST. Having said that we used a Piper in the XR and that performed very nicely. So I'm fooking stumped

I love the highly scientific experiment carried out
As above there are SO many variables that are an issue here.
Also i dont know how you can 'compare' 2 cams like for like in the same engine.. one is obviously going to give more power as it will suit the engine better than the other.. however given a different car the other cam may come out top..
Its all well and good saying this cam is beter than that one but it is entirely different depending on the spec of the engine!!
The only way to get the 'best' cam is to have a custom one made up that is specifiaclly for YOUR engine.. not any old engine with the 'normal' mods
