Default blue smoke.. where to start??

had my saff a few weeks now and it appears to be burning some oil... not masses but enough to leave a nice blue cloud if i cane if off some where or when i stop having been ragging it. there's no smoke on idle whatsoever. anyone give me any idea where to begin troubleshooting this??

I'm immediately suspecting the turbo for no real reason at all. I'm pretty sure it's running too rich (due to shitty fuel economy and stinking of fuel generally, not to mention 4x4 injectors on a standard map.) if that makes any difference

thanks peeps... was hoping for the turbo but rings and valve guides were on the list.. just more hassle!

if it need a rebuild it neeeds a rebuild, but i'm also wondering if it might not just be cheaper to get a second hand engine.. what are your thouhgts?

Cheers,

Mark,

Trouble with the 2nd hand option, is 5 months down the line you could be back to square 1.

And so, the money pit opens I fear

i'm hoping not.. i'd rather fix the existing engine.. just not sure where to start! if i can at least find out for sure what it is i can decide whether or not to comtinue.. hence me hoping it was the turbo... at least i know i can change that without any problems... can't see me messing about with piston rings and stuff though!

took the plugs out... all black as the night but none of them seem to be covered in oil. also too the hose off the turbo (from the filter) and that looks ok too. no play in the shaft really in any direction.. bit of a swirly looking pattern in there but not loads of oil... back to the valve guides and rings then by the looks of it. i'm not sure abotu removing the cams myself, and even if i was how would i tell if the guides were knackered?

heeeeeeeeeeeeelp!
