miles on a 4x4 saff?
if your considering a sapph 4x4 on a 1992 plate, does 131k miles sound too high?
the car has FULL services history and has had the top end rebuilt
the body work is mint (except scabs appearing on an arch) so should I be worried about the miles for this car?
opinions please

£5500, like i say the bodywork (apart frm one arch is mint). This will be my 2nd car so it wont get used everyday.
I'm worried that i'm going to be faced with a rebuild in the space of 2 months or so!!!

cant see it being a problem if its just standard or stg1 for example.
Head has been rebuilt so should be ok, obviosly listen out for any nasty noises etc.
See what the experts say.
See if you can get it for 5k

yeh i have got to agree with Greg here, we paid 4.5k for our 4x4 1 owner saph..... it had done 80k at the time!
the decison is yours hun but i wouldnt be suprised if a bottom end rebuild will be iminent.....
just a thought.
Goodluck hun with what you decide

My mates is on about the same milage, without a rebuild and is a good honest car with a few small bits of rust on the back arch's with only 2 previouse owners and a MASSIVE file of history and he wont be after any where near £5500 for his.
I sold my 87 2wd with full rebuild, 97k and a massive binder of history for £4700 so sounds over priced imo.
O and why do people think that that sort of milage on an 1990ish ca is high thats a 16yo car with an average annual of 12,000 a year that means AVERAGE milage on a 1990 should be 192,000

i've been looking everwhere poss and they all seem to have rust all over it or bad bits that would bug me and they have all done over the 100k mark. Has anyone seen any about that are not being advertised anywhere?

Trace,
here's the one Helen and Dave bought only a week or so ago, was advertised for 5.2, dunno how much they paid, but seems a lot more car than you would be getting.

Don't let you heart win you over, there is one out there waiting for you.
PS: whether you spend 3K, or 8K, an engine rebuild is always a possibility... even if it sounds ok on a test drive, etc...

Matt's old ebony black saph hun, we paid 4500 for and you know how clean that was, he wanted over 5 k for it but u know what matts like....lol
before we found that car we looked for well over 6 months, every weekend we were looking at cars, like u said theres some right shit bags out there!
If you want it, and your instincts saying u want it, then do it....
if it needs a rebuild 6 or 12 months down the line then so be it.... part of cossie ownership i only had the 3dr 2 weeks before that went bang and that had low miles

Racey
My mate might be tempted to sell his, its a h reg moonstone blue lux, its full unmarked leather.
Recent head gasket
Back arch's are a little scabby but other than that its nice, original panels etc
big folder of history
2 previouse owners
bog standard apart from stage 1 chip running about 14psi.
I think he would let it go for about 4.5k or maybe even less, i will have a word if you want

Id give no more than £3,5 for that car But thats me
If you are going to pay 5k why not wait for a rebuilt one around 6, 6,500k
Because this could end up costing you in the long run

if you can ask him then i'd be appreciative.
i didt really want a blue one again but for the right car any colour is fine i suppose (althogh I draw the line at white - they just look sh*t to me whether in good condition or not lately! obviously thats my own opinion!)

the car will defo need a rebuild very soon i reckon, as do most YB's around the 100k mark, so be prepared for a £1500-£2000 bill, or just pay more for a rebuilt example, like mine

Just phoned him and he is willing to sell it but before he does he wants the car to be 100% right, just niggly things like the electric window switch surrond needs replacing and he wants to put the standard airbox back on so it is 100% original and not 99%
So if your still looking in a month or so drop us a pm

You simply have to accept that at 131K, not only are the gearbox and bottom end well past their best, but they damn well deserve renewing. So budget for it is my advice.
A simple visit to a top cosworth tuner will ensure against it actually blowing up due to fuelling, ignition or sensor/wirinmg issues, but no one can predict big end bearing or gearbox wear, not with any tools.
As for teh rest of it, mileage literally is almost irrelevant. My own car for example has done substantially more mileage than that, is used daily for approx 20K per year and is genuinely in FAR better working condition than 80% of Cosworths i work on, Escorts included.
